    Default 1DmkIV discontinued?

    Photorumours think so:

bwana, are you ready to go bargain hunting?

Can't get them for love nor money here. Mind you, we can't get 5DIII's or 1DX's either. When there was still some stock of the mkIV's the prices actually went up for a while. Many grumpy peeps not liking the fact that the APS-H sensor has been laid to rest.
Why yes, my one eye is bigger than the other. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was referring to 2nd hand, since bwana mentioned buying one 2nd hand when people start movign to the 1DX

The 1DX hasn't been in stock anywhere yet. The 5D3 has seen less stock than pre-orders, so no shop has actually had one in stock anywhere yet. At least not among the usual dealers in London.

Even second hand the 1DmkIV's are scarce and when you do find them they are stupid expensive. I think a lot of folks are holding on to these until Canon releases a replacement. The same folk that don't see the 1DX as an adequate replacement. Have a look on eBay the prices have gotten stupid and yet people are still buying them. Case in point, $7k for new and $4.2k used. Craziness!

I have seen a couple 1DX's "in the wild" here, all with CPS member pro's. I did find it strange that we have some before the US but maybe the pro's in the US have theirs but are too busy shooting and getting used to them to post on the Interwebz. There are a couple shops here with 5DmkIII's in stock but they are also asking around $4k for a body only which is what all the sold out places are selling the lens & camera kits for.

I don't think just over half-price for a camera that can't be more than about a year and a half old is so crazy. In fact, if you consider that original 5Ds are going for about half the price of a new 5DmkII right now, $4.2k for a body that's $7k new is a pretty decent deal.

Actually the prices are obscene considering in January this year the 1DmkIV was less than $5k brand new.

I'd be willing to bet that has more to do with exchange rates than greed. January's price was a major dip. It was around $5K before and after. The $7K you refer to is not an average - there is only one new 1Dmk4 listed right now. Looking at the recent completed listings, the price ranges from $1425 to $6300 with an average of the six listed is $4013.

So I think you're unnecessarily worried

    Canon 1D mk4 - R30000
    Canon 1D mk4 - R31900 - Boxed in good condition

KoffieJunkie: I believe that there has only been a limited release of the 5D MK3 as well as the 1DX. Proper stock will only be seen after December.

I broke my 7D last week so maybe it is time to go shopping.

Dropped it. I've sent it in for a quote so we'll see what the insurance company decides to do.

I sent the repair quote to the insurance company today so hopefully I'll hear back from them, one way or another, before I head back to SA next week. At this stage I'd probably be happier with the mx4 than the Dx.

    Poxy little self destructing 7d.
