Thread: Random timeout batches my 8ta connection.

  1. #1

Default Random timeout batches my 8ta connection.

My 8ta generally works quite well and for browsing and downloads I have no real complaints, recently however I have been getting random timeout batches if I run a ping to any site:

I'm experiencing similar difficulties. At times the connection would seem dead for many minutes at a time. I've now established that it's not dead, but hopelessly slow. For example:
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=1 ttl=246 time=68410 ms
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=2 ttl=246 time=69814 ms
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=3 ttl=246 time=72686 ms
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=4 ttl=246 time=75008 ms

Ping ! Ping ! Ping ! I can send Morse code faster than that.

I found that it helps to restart pppd:
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=1 ttl=246 time=93.2 ms
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=2 ttl=246 time=91.7 ms
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=3 ttl=246 time=99.6 ms
    64 bytes from 196.25.1.200: icmp_req=4 ttl=246 time=87.8 ms

    Hi there

Are you experiencing the same on another computer with the same 3G equipment? Does the latency occur when idle for a while? Does your ping improve when you restart the whole connection?

    Please let us know?
