Thread: Decent PC screen/TV monitor for about R3000-R3500?

  1. #1

Default Decent PC screen/TV monitor for about R3000-R3500?

Does not have to be able to do both, I already have a PC screen - Samsung Syncmaster P2250 21.5 inch LCD screen.

But I am buying a PS3 soon, and I do not own a TV currently. My father has a 42 inch LED TV but I do not really want to resort to using it because I'm 19 years old and don't want to rely on his TV schedule for when I can play.

We do have an old spare TV, I used it back in 2007 to play PS2. I know it can run a PS3, but not HD. Which kind of defeats the purpose, right?

Moral of the story, recommend me a decent TV please for under R3500.

Bit of a tough ask at that price, but I'd enquire about/check out the following ...

This is what's available from Game:

Otherwise the LG for R3499 that Roman suggested seems like the way to go since it's full HD: http://www.hificorp.co.za/product/10...2-lcd-32lk430/

    Here's it's product page: http://www.lg.com/in/tv-audio-video/...LG-32LK430.jsp

Those HD-Ready models (1366x768 res) aren't really going to let you leverage the full potential the PS3, which is full 1080p (1920x1080), for newer games and of course Bluray.

Full hd lcd doesn't really matter when it comes to ps3 and games, because most ps3 games doesn't even support
full 1080p most are 720p.But yea you will miss out when it comes to blu ray movies tough.

    My recommendation is
    Dell U2412m

I bought my 27" Samsung monitor ages ago from Incredible for R3k. It's awesome for regular PC use and multitasks with my PS3 perfectly. At close range I find my 27" with headphones more immersive than the 55" Samsung LED and B+W audio in my TV room. Call me crazy but that's how it is...

Most PC LCDs don't offer good value for money any more these days. Why the manufacs charge such a premium on small crappy TN panels is beyond me, when there are eIPS and S-PVA LCDs which offer far greater value.

+1 based on PC work/use from 60cm - 80cm, would PS3 scale fine with 16:10 1920x1200 or would there be black bars? This is a great value eIPS (6 bit) screen, IPS version costing about double.

+1 based on gaming experience, next would definitely be the LA32D550, but you will need 80cm -1m viewing distance for using it as a PC screen for work/use. Perhaps the best bang for buck screen on the market, with S-PVA 8 bit panel with deep blacks and lower input lag than most LG IPS TVs.

PS3 doesn't do 16:10 output. It will be vertically stretched unless the screen has 1:1 pixel mapping, which the U2412M doesn't have.

In that case the U2312M, with 16:9 screen ratio would be better, though it is smaller and I'm not sure if it is available here yet.
