Thread: Entire MTN network down for 4 days

Default Entire MTN network down for 4 days

I recently purchased one of MTN's Uncapped 3G packages via MWeb. The network has been anything but reliable so far, but the last few days take the cake. Although my modem shows good signal, I've been unable to connect to MTN since the 21st. Mweb seem to be far more concerned than MTN - at least they have a partial explanation on their website (network status) which says that as of the 21st "certain MTN 3G Uncapped and 2G account may experience connection issues. This has been escalated to MTN." Apparently "all areas" in South Africa are affected.

Now I've phoned MTN to find out what the hell is happening and no one can give me any sort of answer on what is wrong, how long it'll take to get things right, etc. I've been totally without internet for more than 4 days as of now.

This is appalling!!! So, two questions. Firstly, does anyone know what on earth the problem is? And second, do I have any recourse when the end of the month comes and they dutifully subtract the full amount from my bank account, despite only providing a service for about 85% of the month (and counting, downwards)?

    Nice.

I'm thinking of starting up an ISP who'll only provide service 15% of the time. Rest of the time the customer need to pay for a service not rendered.

Is the 10 Commandments for Christians?

Don't feel lonely. I have a 2GB MTN 3G contract with MWEB and experience so-called "outage" on a regular basis towards the end of each month (when I use the internet most). MTN are appalling - but then what can you expect when they allegedly bought their way into Iran with bribes?

I think this is more a case of MWEB being cheap rather than poor service from MTN.

You'll probably find that the agreement between MWEB and MTN for these accounts gets breeched and MTN cuts those MWEB accounts off for some reason.

It simple to test, get another pure mtn sim, and try data access using that sim when the mweb/mtn sim is giving issues....
