Fantastic to see England getting out-Trotted.
We've really played England's game here, and played it well. I reckon that if we bat through till tea tomorrow, and have a lead of 250 or so, we've got a shot at bringing them down on day 5. I don't see that being too hard an ask, once we've settled in tomorrow morning. In AB and Duminy, we have the potential for quick and exciting runs.
With a pitch that is developing craters outside the lefties off stump, Cook and Strauss will be in for a real test of their technique: both against a spitting ball from the pacers, and (hopefully) Tahir's leggies.
However, I still think its 50/50 between us winning and drawing this game. England hold their fort pretty well, and it will take a lot of aggressive bowling to force them to play. In Dayle Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander, we have 3 bowlers who can make batsmen feel the need to play at the ball.
Too much month left at the end of all the money.
Excellent day at the office...
Bat to Tea time tomorrow (and try to up the run rate) and then have a long afternoon session to get a wicket or three!
Celine: "I'm not saying you're stupid, I just think you have bad luck when it comes to thinking."
I'd say bat to an hour before tea, but start going for it from the start. If we can have 50 overs at them tomorrow then we have a chance to win it. Remember that we might need time to chase whatever they set us.
can see england being 7 down on day 5 as this ends in a draw. we really need to get at least 3 wickets by the close of play tomorrow.
Do NOT construe anything I type as advice
Can't really think of anything more demoralisingChilling moment of the Day
England's joy at ending Smith's marathon innings was short-lived. While they were naturally delighted at finally ending the stay of a man with 25 Test centuries, the sight of a fellow with 42 Test centuries walking down the pavilion steps to replace him was enough to pour cold water on their excitement. No bowler can relish Jacques Kallis coming to the crease at the best of times, but with the score on 260 for 2, the sight must have been chilling. There may be some doubts about the South Africa tail, but when the head and the body are as strong as this, it is not the most pressing of concerns![]()
Damnit.
Was also looking forward to Steyn batting.
Will have to wait for the second test, maybe.
What a lovely day - pity I could only catch it in patches - open the taps tomorrow
England can still win this if they bundle us out in the first hour and again in the last 2 sessions of day 5.
/runs.
Where are the England folks? I'd like to see their comments please; I've checked Cricinfo, nothing...
Anyone?
