    From cricinfo:

The most stunning aspect of South Africa's win at The Oval is that they won a Test match against arguably the best bowling attack in the world losing just two wickets. Last season, this attack had decimated India's much-hyped batting line-up, averaging 25.55 runs per wicket over four matches. Against South Africa in this game, they took two wickets for 637 runs, an average of 318.50 runs per wicket. England's batsmen, on the other hand, averaged 31.25 in the match. The difference of 287.25 is the highest ever in a Test which has produced a result, which makes this the most comprehensive win ever.

The overseas media are really fawning over our team and the result. Wonder if the boys are enjoying a beer or two tonight... :-)

Well done to SA, we have won 2 of the most boring sports the human race has come up with, golf and cricket. I suppose could be worse, lucky we didn't win the tour de france.
Though well done Amla, they could replace the ever-ready bunny with him, he just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and.......

You can't be serious? Some bowlers after 15 innings:

Ntini - 26 wickets at an average of 27 (272 overs)
Steyn - 32 wickets at an average of 35 (271 overs)
Morkel - 32 wickets at an average of 29 (248 overs)
Paul Adams - 35 wickets at an average of 28 (342 overs)
Andre Nel - 32 wickets at an average of 27 (277 overs)
Pollock - 28 wickets at an average of 25 (277 overs)

    and our illustrious Tahir

Tahir - 22 wickets at an average of 35 (255 overs)

He has 4 wickets less than anyone else and is the only one with an average higher than 30 other than Steyn who at least had 32 wickets to make up for that.

Who on earth did Broad sleep with to get to 7th place on the rankings?

Smith is going to play. He flew back straight after the match, will spend a week here and then head back for the second test.

Look at his average if you still think he is good:

36 average - 22 wickets after 15 innings. His (specialist bowler) strike rate is worse than Kallis (an all rounder), as is his average and economy rate.
I must say I do not believe Tahir is the next Warne or even Swann, that does not mean that he can not have a good season after a very low key first couple of tests for him.

That being said, he also has only played in SA, NZ and one in Eng.......... And not one of those three are famous for their super spin friendly wickets.

Botha was ok till he got called on his doosra. Then he became even less threatening. Test cricket is about taking 20 wickets. Simple.as.that.

    Pomms be tripping.

I doubt it. I think if smith can not play they will either have rudolph open or have Amla open and move everyone down. Then they might include Tsolikile.

I wouldn't change the batting line-up. That would cause a schit-storm of epic proportions...

as a matter of interest, how different were the conditions on days 1 and 2 to the days 3 to 5?

To me it looks like the ball swung the same as on day two as day 5 so I don't get what they were on about. Tahir definitely spun the ball more though.
