Thread: I Got Screwed by Fury William Nicol

Default I Got Screwed by Fury William Nicol

They had a 2008 Ford Fiesta with 49000kms on the clock that i wanted to buy for my wife. On Thursday, the day I saw the car, I got finance approved at a ridiculous rate. I wanted to talk to my bank on Friday and see if I could get a better rate. The lady said she was going to reserve it for me.

On Friday, the next day, we agreed that I was going to come in on Monday to test drive the car and if all was fine with the car, I was going to sign the papers. The sales lady's manager and finance guy were Cc'd in the mail.

Her manager calls me today saying he sold it over the weekend to a cash customer and he's not aware of any arrangements I made. I forwarded him the mail and then he started apologizing and said he's getting a 2005 model with lesser kms.

Have we no integrity anymore? What happened to ethics. I was pissed off by these developments but I guess I have to move on and look elsewhere for another car

Sounds like what happened to me at a local 2nd hand Delta dealer...being my 2nd card I was buying from them I thought they'd be fine.

Took the car for a test drive, then had them send the car in for a comprehensive AA checkup (R650) at my expense. A day later when I wanted to pay the deposit, I was told that the car had been sold to someone else. Needless to say I wasn't overly impressed. And sadly enough I _STILL_ hung around until they got another car of the same model for me...salesman said it was a demo model, but I knew he was lying (car's papers had the previous owner details in it.) Price was good, so I took it anyway.

You have to understand car dealers are worse than drug dealers or human traffickers.
One way or another you gonna get screwed

You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.

Why settle for a 7 year old car, even with less milage on the clock?

In terms of cars 3 years can make a big difference...

That's what I said. They could've easily reset the kms. A 7 yr old car with less than 40000kms sounds like a dodgy deal unless it was at a museum used for display purposes.

Your sale was still conditional on you test driving the vehicle?

Yes it was pending the test drive. They made me apply for finance as that was the only way they could reserve the car for me until the test drive.

I just sent the dealership principal an email. Lets see what comes out of that

Let's put ourselves in the dealer's shoes for just a second. What if they had turned down the cash deal, and you ended up not taking the car for some or other reason?
