Default Where to have weird Ford key cut?

The key I got with my 1998 Ford Fiesta is completely worn and I need to have a new one cut. Its one of those funny looking keys. Where can I have this done? Hopefully a Ford dealership is not my only option.

I've got a dirty feeling that the stealership will be your only option.

Master Key here in Cape Town does it (the Bellville branch). They might have branches up north. Its about R800 for a key with chip inside.

it most likely has a chip embedded. you will not be able to have one cut.

Quite a few of your normal locksmiths do car keys as well and will have the equipment to setup the chip as well. As mentioned you're probably looking at around R800 for this though.

It's a cheap-ass 1998 Fiesta. I stick the key in the ignition and start the car like any normal golf. Sure there's a chip? It's just the key's tip that looks weird. The key does start the ignition fine but struggles with the doors. Surely a key without the chip will do fine for the locks?

Yeah, the chip deactivates the immobiliser. A 98 Fiesta won't necessarily have one, but just phone up the dealership and ask if they know. Else just go past a locksmith and ask them if they can tell. If you post a pic of your key we might also be able to tell.

Gosh, I remember Ford charged me for the key, the transceiver, the key cutting, and the programming. 4 separate charges. Cost me a bit over 2k. Thats one the newer focus anyway...

I have a 2002 Fiesta with the same key, Long story short. Keys was stolen and R1800 and 2 weeks later I had a new key. The blank key is R250, Cutting R550 Programming the chip from the computer R1000

So you only struggle with doors?

Replace driver door lock with cheaper type that fits a normal key. Other doors you can open from inside.
    Might be cheaper.

There is a locksmith in Springs if I remember right that does those keys as the Ford Dealer in springs I bought my car off had it cut at a local locksmith and then they brought the key back to have it encoded.

Why not get a central locking kit fitted?
    Just unlock/lock using remote.
