Thread: 3G wireless router

    Exclamation 3G wireless router

    Hi All

I would like to purchase the 8ta 120GB (R1800 once off) deal. As this offer does not include a USB 3G dongle, I was hoping to rather buy a router with an budget of R1200 that does not require the USB dongle.

D-link and Netgear have a few models that supports this feature. They are either out of my price range or they aren't available in SA yet.

I would like to share the connection between 2-3 computers and 2 smartphones.

    Any suggestions?

Buy the Huawei B683 router from 8ta, less than R1000.00, also works very well.

Hmm.. I placed an order over the telephone for the B683 from MTN at R189.00 per month...

    189 x 24 = 4536 ... Ouch. but that is with 2+1GB PM

I'm seriously thinking I should cancel with MTN tomorrow...

    what do you think?

The problem is that I am often running out of my current 2GB deal with Voda, and often having to put in 500MB for R150 which is adding up very quickly.

And I've tested 8ta, I only have EDGE in my area so it's a bit of a pickle.

Paid R680.00 for my B683 - buy your router cash, even if the price has increased. And cancel with MTN, buy your data pre-paid.

Looking at the prepaid data options, can anyone give a recommendation? other than 8ta of course

    Some quick calculations:

    4536 - the router = 3536 (at R1000)

    So you're getting 48GB + 24GB for 3536

it doesn't seem all that bad? I also don't quite have that much up front budget at this point.

I see Cell C has a promo on their 24GB package for 1300 once off

Where did you buy it for that price? I want!

EDIT: Also, are there any options for 3G modems that are of the same quality in terms of signal, but without all the network cable ports etc.?

There are but don't underestimate how important these are.

The I've mounted my 3G router outside where there is good signal, then run a network cable from that router to the main router which is in the middle of the house, so where ever I am in the house I've got great internet.

Well, I got mine with a mtn data contract, R189 pm
You get 2GB pm but the OOB rate is only 30 cents a meg

Maybe you can buy it cheaper but I needed the bandwidth and there is no fees that you have to pay upfront

I just received mine from MTN at R189 including 2GB. After battling with a dodgy edge signal from Vodacom for 18 months, I bouncing all over the place after seeing that MTN has 3G coverage here.

Ordered it online, delivered and working right out the box, no setup needed. I am impressed.
