I stand corrected, I see that you now can (although I didn't go all the way through with the transaction). Up until some time in last year, the only electronic device you could buy from Amazon was the Kindle - and that you had to courier in.

Guys just a fair heads up, but if you go to amazon.co.uk instead of .com, youll find that they do indeed ship some electronic items to South Africa, bought a gfx card last year, and a Skagen watch about 2 months ago (at half the local price at any jeweler) , allso it must be a product directly from "amazon" and not one of there 3rd party listers:P
Just be aware that you will be paying in GBP and they will insist that it get couriered , but its still way cheaper :P
To add the some more on 'HOW TO' buy from amazon I have just ordered a Asus GTX 670 (not available locally and will be R5800) and a OCZ Agility 3 120GB (R1300) for ~R4800 including shipping. By far the easiest way to get stuff delivered is to use a parcel forwarder, I used myus.com. paid R650 for delivery to SA (amazon delivery was free to them).
That was a saving of R2300.
Now I still have my concerns that Asus (and OCZ for that matter) wont warranty my stuff here in SA, but if I need to I will argue with them then.

Amazon isn't registered in SA. The prices in ZAR is simply converted based on the latest exchange rate. Amazon does run a development centre in SA but it has nothing to do with the Amazon online store.
Back to topic tho, my take: the warranty on the GPU will be void if you try reclaim in SA, it is a grey import. Unless they specifically state international warranty and even on laptops those aren't standard.
You see this is where I wonder if that is really the case (even though amazon will tell you to send it to them in the US). First of all they are a registered company in SA and they sold me the item in Rands, not $, so there throws some doubt on whether the item was bought in SA or the US and if I have to ship it back to them in the US and to who ever deals with amazon in SA. Or deal directly with the supplier here in SA. I know suppliers won't deal with items from other countries but as I have the right to not deal with suppliers directly but the company that originally sold the item to me (amazon), they would have to take the responsibility to warranty the item without further cost to me.

Wut?
Hold on, you say amazon, sold you the item in Rands, and you think that that amazon bought the item from SA then shipped it to the US and then shipped it back to you?
So you are going to take your bought item to a local supplier and ask them to warranty an item which they don't have the right to and didn't sell and then they will be the one paying to replace the item which was sold by amazon. Also amazon aren't registered in SA

Is it perhaps a bit late for you or can you not read?
When you go to your online store, kalahari for arguments sake, and buy a CD to find its scratched; Do you send it back to the supplier overseas or back to Kalahari? I'm going to assume the latter. So if I buy a product from another online store the same would apply, what really is the question is are you buying from a store in SA or not. Now selling something in Rands would show some DOUBT that the product is sold out of SA. I could argue to amazon (sa) or in court that the item was indeed bought in SA.
EDIT: If the item was found to have been purchased in SA my warranty would stand here in SA and not the US, simple

You can see any laptop product page, they only shipping it in USA.
Okay, lets set something straight, amazon aren't registered in South Africa, there is no amazon SA.
The above is quoted directly from a MyBB article.Amazon does not deal directly with South Africa and there is no distribution *centre in the country
That isn't how it works, if you've purchased your item in SA your warranty will still stand in the US unless specified otherwise, but if that was the case then ask yourself this question, if/when your hardware fails, who is going to replace it for you?EDIT: If the item was found to have been purchased in SA my warranty would stand here in SA and not the US, simple
Hey I'm just trying to help, but you're not getting around the fact that there is no amazon SA.
^This is true, they do not distribute here in SA. But they are a registered company in SA go check the records (amazon is amazon, doesn't matter what they do - call centre or not). Please understand this is all theoretical and in actual fact not likely going to produce the preferred results.
Lets go back to to what I originally said, I purely was just mentioning that the fact that Amazon have sold me items in a manner which (lets make this clear) COULD/MIGHT be see to have some DOUBT about where the contract to purchase originated.
