Thread: Ubuntu 12.04 first impressions

    Default Ubuntu 12.04 first impressions

I eventually upgraded to 12.04 and found 4 things "out the box" which I don't like (from 11.10)

Launcher : No longer appears on the desktop and disappears once something open. Now either always hidden or always visible - prefer the old way
Right-click colour scheme : When you right-click I always liked the white text on black background interface. Now it is reversed to the windows way
Keyboard: My fault for not selecting right config., but it was very easy for me to select the wrong one, then no @ key etc.
1 day after downloading 12.04, update manager tells me I need to download 118 mb ?

It does seem faster though (not to boot up, but to load and use programs).

I know that these are small things but I was hoping to settle down with the LTS version for a while, not so sure at the moment though.

Launcher: Change the launcher to be visible: Settings, Appearance, Behaviour
Keyboard: Change the keyboard layout: Settings, Keyboard Layout

No idea what you mean with "right-click colour scheme".

Complaining about updating? Do yourself a favour. Do a fresh install of Windows 7. Then do a complete update. You'll hit the GB mark.

    Good point about win unskinnybob.

I have found others unhappy with the right-click menu colours. The new default theme is to blame. For example, If I am browsing in Chrome and right-click on a link to say "open link in new tab" etc. That menu has black text on a white backround, where as before it was the other way around. On that note I found a little trick - you can RC, keep holding, mouse over your option and then let go, and it opens for you.

There is a program called "unsettings" to download, which seems to give you more control over your display.
