Default Looking for a 2.5" PATA HDD

I have a HP nx9010 laptop that I want to give to a 5yr old kid loaded with educational software (on linux). Thing is the HDD is bust but besides that the laptop is fully functional and in good nick. I have 2 hdd's here but unfortunately they are also bust.

If anybody out there has a working 2.5" pata hdd lying in a drawer, box or inside a broken laptop they are not using and would like to donate let me know. It does not have to be big 30-40GB would be plenty seeing it's linux I intend installing.

Yeah, the laptop (Old P4 with a desktop processor nogals and 256MB RAM) is probably worth way less than a HDD.

I think I've got a working 80G at home that came out of a laptop with a dead mobo, I'll check tonight and PM you.

Have five from 2GB to 20GB. Quick checked, working, didn't do full scan. Let me know, will select a good one.

If no one seems to have one for you and you have to buy one google this.

    Western Digital SCORPiO BLUE WD1600BEVE

Will set you back about R950 though.

There are 250gb and 320gb ones also available. The 320gb is funny enough only like R80 more expensive than the 160gb.

Thanks, I have not heard from bruce_the_loon again but I will wait or if you are keen to send them down PM me. I'm sure he is just busy and will get back to me later as a 80GB will be super cool.

I really do appreciate the responses so far

Thanks droid but the laptop is not even worth that much and it's something I'm giving away for free and will probably spend several hours setting up for the girl.

If you don't come right, send me a PM - I have an old Dell Latitude D600 lying at home (sister's old laptop). The whole thing is in working condition but the screen hinges snapped and damaged the frame in the process. So although it works, it is pretty much useless. Maybe the RAM or hard drive can be salvaged. Think it has 2x 512MB DDR400 (could be 333) RAM modules. Drive was small, probably 20GB.

You can buy new pata hdd's from resellers who have access to Frontosa stock, but they are mother effing expensive.

And that's a big problem considering the actual laptop is probably not worth more than a packet of simba chips

Thats why I said they are effing expensive .

The only other option I can think of is to use a USB as a boot device, though that depends on wether or not the board supports such a function.
