Default Switch to FNB Connect Prepaid 3G on your cellphone

For those people with qualifying FNB accounts.

I've been using this for the past 3 months now and I've saved a bundle on data costs.

The only requirements are that you are on MTN or Vodacom's networks because those are the networks that FNB Connect uses for their 3G. Also, this will work for both prepaid and contracts.

    How did I do it?

I applied for a FNB Connect username and password; you can have this sent to your phone or your email address.

I then set up the FNB Connect APN on my phone and then set my data to connect to this APN, using my FNB Connect username and password. The instructions on how to do this can be found here. It's as simple as that.

As for the quality of service, I get up to HSPA speeds, especially when I'm out and about, and this is when I need it the most. I don't use my network's data at all, saving me a bundle on data costs.

Just thought that I'd share this; use it, don't use it.

    :O,

sooo does this mean that 3gb+ we get each month can be used like this?

Well I'm guessing the Rand amount rewarded gets used at the 3g data price ( 59c per meg )

*Edit,my reward amount using the Surf Rate Calculator gives 238megs,if my calculation is accurate that covers my cellphone surfing and extra

I'm not sure; rather check the FNB Connect site. I topped up my prepaid account with R119 two months ago and it was depleted only a few days ago. Not bad, considering that I use my phone heavily for data when I'm mobile.

I checked my account and saw that my free 2GB were still there; also trying to find a way where I can use it on my mobile.

As for FNB Connect's data rate, it's 40c/MB for the first 50MB, and then 59c/MB afterwards.

So when you register for FNB Connect,

you must still pay them for the adsl and 3g, and you get that + your free qualifying rewards?

you cant sign up just to get the "free" rewards?

Isn't the 3G data 50MB? Depending on whether you are Gold or Platinum it's either 30c or 40c per MB.

I think that you get the rewards for merely being registered. I don't use their ADSL but I get 2GB free every month.

Plus, with their ADSL, you can YouTube and Facebook for free between 19:00 and 23:00. They advertised that you can also use the major universities' websites for free but I'm not sure about the terms and conditions around that.

First 50MB at 30c if you're on Platinum and 40c if you're on Gold.

You can also use eBucks to buy 3G data, effectively making it free.

I was confused by this at first too when I signed up a while ago,guy on the phone told me to sign up for R5 airtime on FNB connect,it basically makes your account *active*. Thereafter you get your rewards monthly,I have a few gigs adsl already saved up

I will definitely consider this once my contract has expired. Tired of paying exorbitant fees for my data on my phone!
