Thread: Phoned Vodacom, said Datacontract will stop end May, yet they continue to bill

Default Phoned Vodacom, said Datacontract will stop end May, yet they continue to bill

So I phoned Vodacom multiple times in May to confirm that my Data contract will stop - they said that it is no problem and confirm that it will stop end May.
Now I get a new invoice at R349 monthly cost instead of R149 monthly cost as what the contract was taken out. I phoned them and they behevolently deny that I ever phoned them to confirm cancellation before 4 June and that they even have the audacity to now bill me R349 again for July (because they feel like it).
I also got a nice R300 data usage for June even though I did not use the sim card in june - they said it is aggregated data which they did not charge for previously.

    Any answer vodacom?

On what date did you give them notice that you wished to cancel the contract?

Phoned them in April the first time to confirm when the contract will stop, then they confirmed it will end the end of May.
I phoned again in May because I wanted to make sure that the contract will in fact be cancelled and when they confirmed I took a new contract on 30 May which I started from June so I dont have overlapping contracts.
I suspect someone didn't put through the entry on the system, but now its gonna cost me at least R700 for 2 months at the ridiculous cost of R349 per month.

Weren't they just confirming the contract termination date? You would still had to have given them 30 days' notice in order to prevent continuing on a month-to-month basis.

I gave over 2 months notice, hope they don't try this with me.

thats the thing yes, I told them that I want the contract to stop at the end of May when the contract terminates, since April and a lot of times they confirmed this.
Even when I took out the contract I informed heavily that they must NOT give me any data after the contract terminates

I understand the concept of a contract very well - I have had quite a few. I also have no interest in paying R349 for 2gigs per month while there is much better pricing available - thats why I phoned way ahead of time to ensure
that the contract was cancelled. Now I have to pay the R700 penalty for someone not pressing a button? How many people are they screwing over like this?

PM VodacomData, maybe he can help. They might even be able to pull recordings of your calls to the call centre.

Actually per CPA, Vodacom must contact the client and ask him what he wants to do. If I was the OP it would take this up with the consumer commissioner.

The cellular operators maintain that the CPA does not apply to their business and ICASA is applying for a waiver. In the meantime they carry on as if it did not exist

I have confirmed for the OP that the line will be deleted tomorrow. He will receive his last invoice next month and then billing will be closed.

Guys....when cancelling a line, rather do it in writing and keep proof of this. A letter faxed to 011 546 8006 together with a copy of ID for the contract holder is what is required. Keep proof of this with fax receipt.

You may also go to your Vodacom Shop and request a migration to prepaid. They will present you with a quote that you sign. Once they process it on the system, you should get a notification via SMS on that number. Keep this.

    This.
Christ-mass is NOT for Christians. Jeremiah 10.
Is the 10 Commandments for Christians?

OC your spoken words of wisdom are often forgotten by consumers in general. I would go one more step in sending a termination notice by registered post addressed to the corporate HQ. This drastic step just incase of litigation where I need to claim interest in leu of money owed to the customer caused by incorrect billing.

In this day and age why we still do these things via fax is beyond me. How about we log into the vodacom website and in there have the ability to cancel like that, at least we know it is done properly then and we can then SEE it on the website, We send a fax, hope for the best and then have to deal with the *** if it isn't.
