    Science introduces spray-on battery

    A cutting-edge battery that can be spray-painted on just about any surface was unveiled Thursday by a research team that tested it on everything from bathroom tiles to a beer mug.

    Paintable Li-ion batteries use toxic, flammable and potentially corrosive liquid electrolytes, and must be applied in an oxygen- and moisture-free environment, the researchers wrote.
    While this "spray-on battery" sounds interesting, I'm not entirely sure I see the benefits except for the solar combination. The current enclosed clunky batteries are enclosed for good reasons.

    Yes, but in the case of a laptop or cellphone, the device developers could probably spray the battery around the shell, and thus remove the clunkiness of a solid block type battery from the device, and in turn produce a smaller device

    That sounds great until it starts flaking off either inside or outside of the case. There is a lot of potential for revolutionalizing batteries but a lot more work is needed to make it workable and safe to use.
