To the constructors of unnecessary speed bumps that hurt your car at 0km/h...

I prefer those sharp speedbumps that make even 4x4's slow down.
I have a problem in my street where 4x4 guys drive over the standard municipality humps at 80 to 100km/h and this is in a 60km/h residential zone with kids playing in the streets. They have no bloody consideration for other people's safety.

Also I am one of those drivers that takes humps at 10 to 20km/h the reasons being:
1. The sudden jolt to the dampers wears them out faster than smaller, slower movements.
2. If the hump is non standard I do not want to bottom out my suspension and wreck my vehicle or put something out of alignment.

If you're in a hurry then go drive on a race track.

Our complex has the same badly designed hurdles - not speedbumps. You have to crawl at an angle to get safely over them.

There are regulations to how high and wide spped bumps must be, but these apply to council roads. I don't think private roads fall under the same regulations. They should!

Surely if you can prove that your car was damaged by a speed bump on a private road you can sue??

the physical barricades work well on quieter roads (forces cars to stop and treat it like a circle, only no cheating).

Nope 130! I drive appropriately. My shocks cost 7.5k to replace so u can kiss my butt if u behind me but I slow down!

Another wonderful new speed bump appeared in the driveway of our office building... Clearly designed to prevent flyovers by aircraft... THAT FARKING HIGH!!!! WTF!?!?!?!

Aaw, come on, you are just complaining because they didn't build the bumps to allow your low slung Ferrari to pass the bump unhindered .

Seriously, same problem where I live though. It is like a bunch of farmers with 4x4s that don't know there are other kinds of vehicles out there that built the things...

Those little diamond-shaped individual bumps, or the little metal dome bumps are hell on a bike.
At my work we have the diamond ones on our internal roads. The Bikers have removed just 1 or 2 in strategic locations to facilitate bikes being able to pass through the gaps. As a result, bikers will slow down to align themselves with the gaps, while the actual bumps reduce the vehicle speeds.

If I encounter a bumps that are too high while on my bike, you can be damn sure that I will stop in the middle of the road if I have to to get around/over the bump without damaging my baby. I don't care if I cause a traffic jam - they wanted to put the bumps there, they have to deal with the consequences of me not being able to go over them and blocking up the traffic.

It's one of the few things I will be hardegat about.

The ones at Disa Park in Vredehoek are small (400mm wide and 70mm high) but the maximum speed over these is 5km/hr. Last time I was there, there was a silencer and piece of curved pipe lying next to the kerb.

Yes, big time. Sometimes it sounds like an accident about to happen as the driver sees the bump quite late

Its quite a funny cycle, bumps get bigger.
Car manufacturers design better suspension with more travel and bigger wheels.

I actually scraped the undercarriage of my old Ferrari once pretty bad on one of those metal type speed humps, in an office building parkade. Those things need to go, period.
