Telkom ADSL pricing: What you will pay from August

Telkom has increased its ADSL and line rental prices, effective from August 2012. This is what you can expect to pay.

    Roughly R20 on all speed.

The unnecessary R139,97 is the biggest problem.

Wireless prices go down. Fixed broadband prices go up.

Forced voice line rental needs to get stopped now.

And people keep saying ADSL is cheaper than mobile (to the moderate/average user, that is)! 2GB costs R99 from Cell C at say 1Mbps and from Telkom R313 (Just the line rental, excluding said 2GB, R29 From Afriost) TOTAL: R313+R29= R342!

    Yeah Right!

You consider 2GB a month as "moderate"/"average" amount of bandwidth? LoL.

Lets hope MWEB Guy forwards this to their marketing department so they can finally release their new price offerings.

dont mind so much the extra R20pm... but can they at least up my 4meg line to 10Meg then please :-)
to think i actually have good 8ta coverage, and generally use less than 10Gb pm... yet still pay for ADSL.... yip: "stupid is as stupid does"!
Just dont wanna get involved into that 2year handcuff ... but seriously have to compare the prepaid options.... while speed on 8ta is not quite 4meg, still quite good

ADSL data goes down and line rental goes up... seems like we are in the same position again.

I get 4 times the speed what I used to get on my 1 meg adsl but also don't smaak a contract. Will be heading back to adsl after the upgrades probably.

Well, if the "average" user doesn't ever want to update all their software and devices, never watches anything on youtube, never streams music, never browses pages more than 5 times a month, never uses any cloud storage whatsoever and never buys even a quarter of a game on Steam/Gamersgate/GOG/Get Games/Impulse/Origin and only reads a few emails a month, they might go for that option... In more modern times however, we tend to transfer a bit more data than 2GB in an entire month.
So y'all need to hide yo uzis, hide yo assault rifles and hide yo bazookas 'cos they disarmin' everybody out here!

I assume with their "new" price list, all 384 and 1024 connections will be upgraded before August?

Prices come in 1 August so yeah hopefully that will be the latest date for the upgrades. Mind you it says Up to... which means they can still get away with 384's that have not been upgraded.

My problem is Telkom has me on WIMAX... 512 max .. but I am going to be paying for a 1meg line..
42 yrs of Apartheid (1948 - 1990) + 22 yrs of BEE, AA & EE (1990 - 2012) = 64 yrs of sanctioned racism in SA, I hope my kids will see the end of it.
