Default Smartdata Bundles- It is Time !

It is good to see some service providers are doing there best to show value for money with regards to there airtime options and call facilities, Cell C seem to be leading the way with regards to the above. However they seem to be neglecting the bottom line the most important issue and that is cost of bandwidth.

Excuse my naive approach on this issue but i cant help not to make a comparison with ADSL.
Afrihost has just been voted the leading ISP provider in South Africa....why? well quiet simple, great service and choice, giving people the option to choose what will suit there pockets, here is an example that just blows my mind.

    Cost R24 (incl. VAT)
    Bandwidth 1 GB
    Unshaped Bandwidth
    Recommended Use Usage over time
    Connectivity Speed up to 10mbps*
    Concurrent Connections 10
    Data Validity 12 months
    Instant Activation
    Email accounts with Webmail
    Fibre Backbone (IS)
24/7 Telephonic Support (that actually works)

........................do the mathematics.............. for 10Gigs per month you will pay R 240.00

However on Cell C the story is completely different for 10GIGS per month you will have to fork out R1500.00

Please keep in mind the above costs do not include line rental or access fees just bandwidth.
Due to my location and Helkoms bad infrastructure access to a ADSL line is difficult, Cell C is my best option currently, I will give them a 7/10 for the speeds and latency that there networks are capable of delivering, they just need to work on stability!
    Average:- http://speedtest.net/result/1638485060.png

Bottom line, choice we the consumers, the end users are not being given a choice we are being forced into a money making corner.
I appeal to all individuals and the representatives of Cell C concerned to make a concerted effort to bring choice with regards to Prepaid Smart Data Bundles.

The sad reality is within the next 6 months if pricing for bandwidth does not change for the better im going to have to get rid of the service completely which will be a very sad day.

And they should also introduce Straight Up Data contracts.

Which package is this? Are you sure that's not 10 gigs for the year? I'm not familiar with a 120GB package. If it IS a 120 gig package (10GB a month), then you pay R1,599 for the full year so that's R133 per month. That's cheaper than your R240 option and that's before we put into the line rental and all that jazz.

Now, don't get me wrong - I've recently converted from 3G to ADSL and it was a damn good move. I'm just making sure we're comparing things properly.

Well, you will have to compare the speed difference as well. Think about the line rental for 4mbps line on ADSL and with Cell C speed sticks you can get really fast speeds.

@Darkblood, Im specifically referring to prepaid bandwidth only, forget about contracts and data bundle promotions pure bandwidth I've got the speed stick, im getting acceptable speeds all im looking for is choice and option for data that is inline with ADSL.

My bundle that I have is going to expire within the next month or two now the R133 per month figure you mentioned is based on a bundle for the year, I do not have the choice to utilize that option on a month to month basis with other price options available.I do not have the luxury of forking out R1600 once off for bandwidth.Congrats on your port from 3G to ADSL bandwidth cost must be a dream!
