Thread: Upgrading line speed & Telkom Simple package

Default Upgrading line speed & Telkom Simple package

Do anyone know if the Telkom Simple internet package, 1024 line speed, 10Gb data @ R499 p/m includes all costs or is there any additional costs to that package? I have a 384 line with 10Gb data, but with calls its costing me over R800 a month. I use this internet and PC mostly to watch videos and listen to music from Youtube, but with the 384 line even watching Youtube clips at its very lowest res the clips dont load smooth as it buffers every so often, thats why I want to increase my line speed to at least 1024.
On the telkom site the 384 line is R152 and the 1024 line is R289, so will it be cheaper just upgrading my line or to get the package of R499.
Also the package I got now's contract finish now August, will I be able to upgrade either my telkom plan or upgrade the line speed now or would i have to wait for current contract to finish?

I havent had any issues with Telkom since started using them a few years back, but if I upgrade my line only is there better ideas for another ISP to use with the 1024 or 4096 line. I dont really use that much international data a month so a 10Gb account is fine for me but will get a uncapped account as well if the price difference isnt to much.
Just 1 more thing, say I have a 1024 or 4096 line and I used up all my international data, does the line speed stay the same for free local data, or will the speed decrease once I finished my international cap?

Just wait until August and you will get a free upgrade to 1 meg line.
384 will be upgraded to 1 meg and 1 meg will be upgraded to 2 meg by telkom free of charge in August or there a bouts.
If it walks like a duck and kwaks like a duck ..its a duck

I think you must get the simple Plus for R499, and when Telkom upgrades everyone you will have a 2MB ADSL + 10GB Data for R499 a month.

Dammit I hate when my impulsiveness gets the better of me and I do things without checking up on the facts... I upgraded to a 1meg line the day after I posted my question without coming back here 1st to see if anyone posted a answer, oh well guess no I'll get upgraded to 2meg line when telkom does the free upgrade in August. Internet browser accounts work up to a certain speed, like basic accounts or prepaid usually specify up to 1meg speed, if ttelkom do those upgrades and my line becomes a 2meg line, would i be able to use normal "up to 1 meg account" like i used with a 384 line speed and is using now with 1meg line speed or would I need to get a bigger account to use with the 2meg line.
I noticed like telkom's accounts specify up to 1meg, up to 4meg etc. there is no accounts specific for a 2meg line. If it means to use 2meg line speed properly I would have to get the account that would work with up to 4meg line, it would be pointless, then i might just as well get a 4meg. Do Telkom have 2meg lines to choose from at the moment, and if you can ask for a 2meg line, do you think that it will get free upgrade to 4meg?
Or maybe i must just wait and see, maybe they change that current account will work up to 2meg after telkoms upgrade.
