I'm scared buying one off amazon because it's quite small and valuable and thus seems like the perfect thing the thieves at customs would take for themselves.

Bought a Touch 3G on Takealot.com for R2000 today, free delivery, shipping on Monday morning.

You shouldn't have any problems with them and customs... have never heard of a kindle going missing. It's really not expensive via Amazon either.

If it does get stolen, then amazon will just send you another one. Also, amazon added a new cheaper shipping option that takes a little bit longer.

Nothing wrong with buying from Amazon. Well unless you want to return it under warranty or something, but it's cheap and fast. If you use the courier option it will literally arrive faster from the US than one ordered locally. Takes 48 hours total if I remember correctly.

Amazon is awesome, the package is insured and sent via courier (less likely to disappear) so if it goes missing in transport they will replace it for you.
Also very very good service when/if it breaks.

Okay just ordered one from Amazon, not really paranoid but I have had electronics stolen before.

A quick question, I see amazon included a "import fees deposit" in the price. Am I right to believe that this means they will handle the tax/vat/whatever charges with customs/sars?

Amazon's fine but I needed a wifi Touch urgently for a b-day present. Got one from a seller on bidorbuy with local stock for R1300, overnight delivery got it the next day with no issues.
