I think everyone is more concerned about the pricing of their uncapped packages.

Not really blown away by this announcement.

A downward change in their data package pricing would be welcome to compete with Afrihost...

Now that MWEB has increased their pricing, other ISP will do so.

    Government's fault for screwing Telkom

The reason why Telkom is loosing customers is because of very crap service. Nothing else!
If you want a new telephone, they always have the normal excuse of no lines.
Having a problems with your line, you have to phone millions of times before you get joy.
Look at www.hellopeter.com. It is living proof.
They buy companies which they were warned not to buy but do so in any case and loose millions of rands.(They even fired the people that warned them)
There is no hope for Telkom. Soon, IS or Mweb will be able to buy them out for a few rands.

Well I'm just waiting to hear what people on the Afrihost 4M accounts say about user experience. I already know at least one person who moved over. If his experience in the next month or two is positive, I will definitely consider the move myself.

My wife actually use our voice line with the closer 2 option for phoning family on a regular basis, so voice line rental is a moot point for me personally.
As for the data portion, for R222 more than I paid for a 1M uncapped account with MWEB 2 months ago, I can now get a 4M uncapped account with Afrihost. That's 38% more cost, for 4x the line speed (With the current pricing it changes to R322 and 66% more cost for 4x line speed).
Assuming MWEB's (and possibly other ISPs) 2M offering, when the "faster" lines are upgraded to 2M, is in the same ballpark as the 1M offering used to be (ie. ~R300), that becomes a 38% increase in cost for double the line speed, which is still a pretty good deal, assuming your budget can handle it (and also assuming the experience is more or less at the same pleasantness level).
Unfortunately, with MWEB's current 4M uncapped pricing, the figures become R364 more than the old 1M account, which translates to 62% higher cost. This, while probably still fairly reasonable for 4x the speed, remains quite steep, for me at least.

Of course it might also turn out that the user feedback from Afrihost's 4M uncapped account is terrible as opposed to MWEB's, which will justify the higher cost, but so far this does not seem to be the case.

The added benefit of the "fastest" Telkom option is that you can always use a capped account to potentially get up to 10M speeds, if your exchange supports it.

Then again, I might also decide to simply stay on 1/2M and save some money each month.

    R10... Wtf.
To anyone that wants to start whining; Tell you what, walk an extra 10km a month and save a litre of petrol - that will save your piddly monthly budget if you're that stretched for R10... Ffs. Lol

When MWEB released their first uncapped pricing in 2010 - It was extremely competitive. However, their 4 Meg pricing hasn't changed much since and its become quite disappointing. MWEB, the service is great - so is the speed, but can't the Data Only pricing come down a bit?

The lower packages are quite economical - and for the 384k users who are now going to be paying R10 more for a 1 Meg line, the pricing is actually quite reasonable...

Wait until the other ISPs get their wholesale pricing from Telkom...

So you've gone to 1meg from 384k for R10 extra a month... Not really a prob if you think about it!!!!! Not to be selfish but I just wanna know what Mweb are gonna do with my current 1meg line when its upgraded by Telkom(hopefully)

This confuses me a bit, so what happens to current 1MB uncapped customers (all inclusive bundles). Will we then pay less for line rental ? as i see it will we be automatically classed as 1mb packages or will we still pay the higher prices for the 2MB line but be throttled at 1mb?
