Blackberry 9300 that I have has Vodacom firmware and branding.Now can I say perhaps remove firmware and put MTN firmware and are the 2 firmwares' functioning the same or is one better than the other?

Same no difference.
actually there is a HUGE difference between firmware from MTN and Vodacom.
Network / Radio updates and changes depending network configuration... is one of the main differences
...and the voda one got that horrible meerkat...
