Default Red Bull Stratos - Felix to be 1st man to go supersonic in freefall

Have a look at the below link...freefall from 120 000ft....insane! Anyways...I thought at that height he would heat up and ignite like the shuttle does when it enters earth's atmosphere? So why wont it happen in this case? Is he not going to be high up enough?

Video simulation about what they are expecting to happen:

He'll only be accelerating to terminal velocity. The energy lost to friction is only sourced from gravitational pull. When the shuttle comes in, it is travelling at WAY over terminal velocity (25000km/h) and there is LOADS of kinetic energy to be converted to heat as it slows down.

Because he is still subject to the earth's gravitational pull. He'll only float away if he's travelling laterally at a speed where his centrifugal force is greater than gravity's pull.

He'll be breaking the above record once he has done it.

Was about to ask who acts in it.
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Kittinger did something similar when we never really knew what would happen. Passed out in the first one and started spinning with 22g's of force. He is most famous for his participation in Project Manhigh and Project Excelsior, holding the records for having the highest, fastest and longest skydive, from a height greater than 31 kilometres.
