Arb question but can you explain the below:
The second Caliph, Umar, related in a hadith
I'm assuming Caliph is some form of ruler/title? Hadith a memoir or letter?
Nice thread.
Just one thing wrt fasting. My observation: It seems to me that during this period muslims eat MORE than any other time. Doesn't this period call for abstinence instead?
Why do people get attacked by sharks? I mean, how do you not hear the background music?

Caliph-Ruler
Hadith is everything that is recorded by the Sahabah (Companions) of the Prophet (S.A.W) statements, actions etc
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith
A Caliph is the head of state in a Caliphate, which is essentially the name of an Islamic state or system of government under Sharia law.
Hadith are writings, anecdotes or statements associated with the prophet Mohammed. They also have a very high standing in Islam, and is studied in parallel with the Quran.
That's how I remember/understand it. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.
"Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove..."
Why do some muslim men have dark marks on their foreheads?
Is it self inflicted?
We're all running on caveman software...My latest threadsI did not have NULL relations with that variable.
Probably from the prayer position.
Edit : seems I was correctit even has it's own wiki page!

Head lamp = 0

Apparently some men deliberately use rougher mats (eg straw mats) and rub their heads harder to get this mark since its a sign of piousness.
Also, some men have similar marks near their ankles.
