I'm not sure, the official client is only for BD players as far as I know, but the unofficial one (where you need to PM the guy for the IP address) might support the TV's. That's the one I'm using currently.

    See this thread: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/...__not+official

I think your best option would be getting something like the PS51D550 and a D-Series Bly-Ray player, but why don't you want a HTPC?

I have a PS51D550 with a HP ProLiant MicroServer, it's the greatest experience ever.

That's what I'd recommend too, if you can still find the PS51D550, it should be around R8000. 3D E or D-series Blu-ray player is about 1500. I use my Microserver as a server though, not a player (I seem to be almost alone in this on the forums). The problem is getting all the extras for the Microserver, the graphics cards are now quite easy to get but finding an IR receiver that works properly is still a PITA.

See my previous post, I got mine for R8K from Foto Discount World, but I don't know if you can still find stock anywhere.

Depends on what your objective is. If all you want to do is play out on a single device (TV) then an HDMI connected device (media player/HTPC) would be easier.

Plex's forte however is multiple device types (TVs, BD players, STBs, tablets, phones etc.) in multiple locations all playing for a common media repository (with playback memory).

I was speaking about Plex, I have Plex Server and Client on the HP playing via HDMI on the PS51D550, also streaming throughout the house to everything from iPad and iPhone to another PC and a PS3.

    MicroServer + Plex + SABnzbd + Sick Beard + CouchPotato + MWEB = Heaven

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same except on older Core Duo server.

Only one thats a bit flaky is CouchPotato, am running the latest v2 beta (a.k.a CountPotatoServer) and it still makes doff decisions. For now only use it as an alterter as to whats avaliable, but still make the download choice myself.

Same here, still using old school CouchPotato, only for it's Post Processing and notifications to my iPhone, I like to read the comments of the movie before manually adding it, never know when something is out of sync or a bad rip.

This. Was using the PS51D550 and HP MS last night. Best value option because you're getting a glorious 51", and HP MS/media player of your choice, for less than a 46" 6 Series LED-LCD. Which won't give as good a picture as the plasma; the depth especially of dark scenes on these new Sammy plasmas is phenomenal. Amazing out the box performance on Movie mode.

Well, not an option since that tv isn't available anymore...

Any other good 3d tv then without the smart option?

Very happy with my 51e550 and hpms with xbmc Will try plex when I get something that can be a client and output to my 42 in the lounge. Would also need some cabling installed though. I got an email from uniterm with new 500mb EoP devices though, much easier option.
