Thread: Cable / Copper Stolen - Kenwyn/Lansdowne Cape Town

Default Cable / Copper Stolen - Kenwyn/Lansdowne Cape Town

    Hi

Confirmed with Telkom this morning that the cable has been stolen in the Kenwyn / Lansdowne area - Cape Town. This occurred the evening of Monday 3rd July or early morning Tuesday 4th July.

Sadly, this comes as no surprise. Cable was stolen in the Wetton area next door 3-4 months back. It took them 2-3 months to replace and fix issues (they put in new copper and it was re-stolen). I did expect my neighborhood to be the next target.

If this affects you, please post here and I will keep everyone posted.

Also, please LOG THE ISSUE WITH TELKOM. The more people that log a complaint the faster telkom will fix the issue.

Not that it will do anything to speed up the process, but I will have a chat to the ward councilor who lives on the corner to rally the comrades.

    Thanks
    Sad Panda

This is quite ridiculous. Telkom is doing nothing to curb the stealing of copper. What a joke.

I really wonder if it is going to be viable to install MSAN's and related equipment on street corners in areas where copper theft is rampant which would presumably be worth substantially more than copper wire. I wouldn't be surprised if this only happens in areas which have controlled access.

When is Telkom going to stop using Copper and move on with Fibre optics?

Heard it is too expensive to lay fibre since the other equipment is expensive. Eish.

My line stats were pretty shocking (attenuation of 50), i just hope it doesnt get worse if/when they replace the copper.
