A teen gang rape survivor is living in fear after her attackers threatened to kill her if she does not withdraw charges.
The 15-year-old’s nightmare began the day before Youth Day when she was standing with friends around a fire galley.
“Two of her friends called her over to them and when she reached them, they rukked (forced) her into a shack,” her mom tells the Daily Voice.
The girl is too traumatised and embarrassed to speak about what allegedly happened to her on the fateful night.
“They kept her there all night and they forced her to have sex with them,” her mom says.
“They took it in turns to rape her.”
The shocking incident is the latest brutal gang rape to come to the attention of cops.
Experts say there is evidence that gangs of sex beasts are increasingly targeting teenage girls.
In many cases, they ply their victims with alcohol or drugs before raping them.
MEC for Community Safety Dan Plato tells the Daily Voice: “Alcohol and drugs are major contributors for rapes and many may feel they do not want to lay a charge.
“The person who is raped needs to provide police with some type of evidence or proof to get a conviction.”
But in the vast majority of cases, the girls are too afraid to come forward and identify their attackers.
However, this family bravely agreed to speak out – and say they will not be intimidated by rapist thugs.
“They want me to withdraw the charge but I won’t. There are a klomp meisies(a bunch of girls) in the road and what if the same thing happens to them,” says the mom.
“It happened to my daughter and there is nothing we can do about it, but I don’t want the same to happen to anyone else’s child.”
The distraught 36-year-old mom says her daughter’s attackers forced her to perform oral sex on them before “taking her from the front and behind”.
She says she went looking for her daughter and eventually returned to her Valhalla Park home in the early hours of Saturday morning of June 15 to take care of her two younger children.
“The next morning I was about to go look for her again when the police arrived at my house with (my daughter),” she says.
“They took us to the police station and when we got there, she pointed to two boys and said to me: ‘Mummy, daai twee boys, hulle sê ek het ’n phone gesteel maar hulle het vir my gerape(Mommy, those two boys, they said I stole a phone but they raped me)’.”
The mom says she turned to the cops who had taken her and her child to the police station and told them what her daughter had said.
“The police turned to the two boys and said to them they knew what they were up to and took them into custody,” she says.
Police spokeswoman Captain Marie Louw confirms police are investigating the incident.
“If there is any problems or if the family is concerned about the investigation, they are more than welcome to come speak to the Bishop Lavis Station Commissioner or they can speak to the Branch Commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Assault unit,” she adds.
