This year I moved all our internet connections for the company over to Neotel's NeoBroadband Fibre. Wow what a roller coaster. We have a branch in Cape Town and in Johannesburg, so I have had the opportunity to deal with the Cape Town staff as well as the Johannesburg staff.
We applied for the lines beginning February, and getting the OK from Neotel with their feasibility study does takes some time. Also they have a policy that the fibre run cant be more than 50 meters for a 2mbps line, which means the building has to sit on top of their manhole!
Our Cape Town line was first to be commissioned on the 11 th of June. So that took more or less 5 months from when the application forms was sent in until we were able to use the internet.
In Johannesburg things are way different. If you tried to get hold of the right people to tell you whats going on you are unable to get hold of them over the telephone. Emails would be answered two days later. We were giving false hope twice as to when the installation will go forward. The first delay was when the fibre line was finally approved by Neotel they started the process again with a Microwave link. This was after the land lord signed the approval documents and this was given to Neotel! The second time they had mixed us up with another companies Right-of-way application with the municipality.
Today I got an email from them moving the installation date another month later while it was promised to us at the end of June.
I am quite happy with the service in Cape Town, but has anyone else had such bad experience in Johannesburg?
Dont get me wrong, the product works very well when installed, but eish, to wait half a year for an installation?![]()
