Thread: Can an atheist die in peace?

I see not much changes around these parts.

Without wanting to get too involved in this 'debate', I am interested to know why so many of you consider an eternity in "Heaven" to be something you can relate to.

I would imagine that most descriptions of heaven exclude the concept of entropy, so why would there be a concept of time?

Because 2000 years ago when they made this **** up they didn't know much about science.

    Just ask Galileo.

If the atheist has nagging doubts about his/her atheism was just going along with it to be part of the crowd, then they they probably won't die peacefully. But if they had no doubts, then they probably will die peacefully.

It's more likely that theists won't die peacefully, because they wont know whether they have done enough to qualify for a spot in heaven, for calling all those atheists f###heads was a mistake because there was specific mention in their bible to treat others as as they would expect to be treated themselves Since the bible didn't actually say this didn't count for atheists of for other religions, there will be some doubt here and possibly that minister who said anyone who isnt a Christian doesnt deserve respect was actually a test by God and now 95% of theists are f###ed and 85% if atheists go to heaven simply because they behaved like decent human beings

Does this ever happen? I suppose I can see it happening in small groups of friends or something, but in the larger picture, I think the reverse will always be more prevalent.

A bit ambiguous mate. Pretend atheists? To what end? You either believe in deities or you don't.

Me personally, I believe when I die, my brain will stop functioning and I will cease to exist. Simple as that. There is no factual information to suggest anything happens when my body ceases to function. Not wanting to cease to exist is a personal matter. I don't think any two people truly feel the same about the prospect.

I find it quite hard work being an atheist actually. So many people just assume a white guy must be a Christian that it could become quite uncomfortable if I actually corrected them as to my lack of beliefs. SAn society is geared towards it and bowing heads or having a prayer before a community event is the norm. No problem to me, but no-one stops to ask if I'm offended in the way Christians like to be considered.

But I'm not offended anyway, just mildly amused. So I generally don't correct anyone unless it has a direct bearing on the conversation or situation as it's not relevant to anything. If they ask though, no problems, I can chat until the rapture occurs.

But funny how some Christians think it's 'cool' to be atheist. Man, you guys are getting fed so much shyte from so many angles you will have to reach bursting point sometimes.

Ditto. And I get mildly annoyed when people assume that I follow the world of science avidly and are aching to debate 'controversial' topics such as evolution and creation.

Whether someone wastes their lives or not in believing in some myth is largely irrelevant. Since life is merely a 1 shot deal which is an accident of biology there is no meaning to it, therefore it cannot have been a waste, because there was no divine purpose to it in the first place.

Therefore whether someone dies in peace or not is purely their own perception, which means an atheist and a theist can die in peace.

Ignorance is bless and since there is no afterlife, who cares
