Default Problems with Data Coverage on the West rand JHB?

    Hi ,
just wanna find out , if theres anybody else suffering with data coverage on the west of jhb im in the roodepoort area , and for the past 2 weeks MTN signal has been really bad , i cannot even use 3G and EGDE also just drops randomly

i have a Huawei B970B 3G router and my wife and I are on MTN , the data card i have has absolutely zero connection , when im connected to wifi i cannot browse , receive mails , nothing , when i use my phone , without the wifi , same thing , sometimes my wife's phone says "limited service" till she reboots , it picks up 3G but still cannot browse , i have now resorted to 8ta data contract , because i have absolutely no time to rely on MTN with such issues

Hmm, my wife has been having same problems as well. her Blackberry goes into SOs mode a lot at the house, only very near the windows does it work. MTN has always been bad in our area (Roodekrans, near NG Kerk) because of the cliff but now its worse.

My neighbour, a teacher at a nearby school also says she is having issues with reception and it has seemed to got worse when a new tower was erected at the school.

Which area in Roodepoort you located?

Took out a data contract last Thursday, always 2G and only my phone can connect (painfully slow). It's in Parktown. Are there any steps I can take or I will be paying R200 a month for nothing.

You should be able to cancel your contract without penalty because it has been less than 7 or 10 days.

We are in Boskruin and our MTN 3G is almost unusable. The tower is seriously overloaded when it comes to data. My neighbor works for MTN so he has access to the work only APN and he says he never has issues. Seriously peeved as we pay good money for a service that hardly works. Very frustrating. MTN really has disappointed me.

It looks like MTN has problems like these everywhere. I too had a fight with the coverage desk - they lied, ducked and dived and the only way I could get answers was when retentions phoned me to ask if I will upgrade my contract and I said I will not upgrade unless they sort out coverage. They are now apparently upgrading the tower in my neighbourhood.

Bombard the coverage desk with mails and applications. if MTN can see the benefit of adding capacity to exisitng sites, or adding another site, they will.

Secondly, can someone pass me the site or cell ID, I will pass it on to some of our engineers. Might be something we can look into

Same here, especially in the City Centre. Even calls are affected, people go straight to voicemail, and SMS fail or arrive hours late. Had it.
