Question Samsung BD-D5100 Blu Ray player firmware

    Can anyone help please.

I have a Samsung BD-D5100 Blu Ray player that I bought at Game the beginning of the year.

I want to upgrade the firmware but I can't find the file I need to upgrade. My model firmware ends with XAB. The one of the SA website ends with ZAB. The player tells me that the firmware is not supported.

I've tried all different regions and all of them have different initials at the end ie, ZAB, ZNA WWB, etc... but none of them ends with XAB.

    I need this file: CSP-D5100XAB-1021.1.RUF

I hope someone has got the same BD player.

I've got a newer (E-Series) player, but mine also says there's no firmware available. I have the same problem with my PS51D550 TV, except there I can download the firmware from the website, put it on a USB stick, and then it refuses to update. There's something seriously messed up with Samsung's firmware update system. Someone on the forums had another link where you can get the files directly though, maybe he/she will show up.

Must be a problem on their side yes. I upgraded the firmware around about February and I got hold of the XAB file and it worked perfectly.

What bothers me is that Samsung tech guys say that the XAB is a different region. That means that Game sold me a grey import???

Strange, because this link includes "XA" at the end...

Precisely. And if you click on "download" it downloads a ZAB or ZNB file.

Mmm.. If you tried all the other regions and none of them have the XAB either, something is seriously messed up. I'd like to know what's wrong since I suspect it might be the same thing with my TV. All Google turns up is this post, Hellopeter, Facebook etc posting, which I'm assuming is all you..

Yip. It's me. I was told this morning by Samsung that I should take it in to my nearest service centre and they should be able to sort it out for me.

I'm going to take it to Liptronics in Parow on Monday morning. Will keep you posted. In the meanwhile I hope someone comes up with a plan to fix this.

Do you not have ADSL? Mine is connected to my router and it updates firmware automatically whenever something is available.

You make it sound so easy. Or is it?

    I'm running windows 7.

So you say if i use my laptop to connect to my wireless hotspot (Galaxy S3) and I connect a lan cable between my laptop and BD Player I should be able to connect to the internet on my BD Player if I share the connection?

I wish I was smarter when it comes to networking / lan etc...

Yeah, plug in mtn card. Goto network, share the 3G connection, which will assign a 192.168.0.1 to your laptop, then plug LAN cable in laptop to BR player. Should be good to go.

I used to do this back in the day before I got adsl.

I have to thank you. As I sit here my BD Player is busy updating the firmware via my laptop sharing my cellphone's wireless hotspot.

    Awesome.
