Every teaching of Islam is a manifestation of Divine mercy, and any understanding of Islam that lacks mercy, lacks understanding,

Here's the other story
http://www.thoughtleader.co.za/grant...que-hypocrisy/The Houghton mosque will, of course, be located on some of Africa’s most expensive suburban real estate and some of Johannesburg’s most historical land. Since religious groups normally battle with funding, one wonders if it would not have been more cost effective and less intrusive to the residential nature of leafy Houghton to build the mosque on Louis Botha Avenue. It’s a hop and a skip away from Houghton where land costs a fraction of the price. The reason is that the price of the land, it turns out, is not really an issue.
That’s because, according to the article, the King Fahd Islamic Trust Centre, Saudi Arabia, is funding the entire project. That’s right, local South African Muslims do not have to foot the bill on this one; it’s a gift from the Saudi Kingdom. And the Saudis have not just extended their benevolence to us here in South Africa it would seem, but are doing the same around the globe.
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Well, in Islamic countries the state often foots the bill with some community support. Every Mosque does have a patron of sorts though - an individual/organization/entity that contributed a significant portion of funds/access to resources. This also influences the name given to the mosque. In non-Islamic countries the local community provides support, but depending on the socio-economic status of the area the mosque is built in, other donations will be solicited from the broader community (nationally and internationally). Here's a significant point though, whatever work can be produced with the unpaid (or slightly subsidized) assistance of community members is widely used, i.e. a member is a builder/tiler/bricklayer/plumber/etc. and he contributes his services to the construction of the mosque without charging or charging at cost price or less. This though mostly only applies to company owners and not individual skilled workers (you don't do the work yourself but have your company do it). Interesting fact: there is a definite preference for 'Muslim' owned companies to do any of the construction, decoration, etc. work in the event that the mosque cannot be built by the 'community' alone.
There are no over riding ecumenical bodies as such, rather, things are heavily dependent on networks of association. This is reflected in the rather insular character of many Muslim cultures around the world, even in fairly tolerant (though conservative) Muslim communities as found in South Africa.

That big mosque on the highway was indeed started out by the houghton jamaat ( guys in charge of other houghton mosque) in conjunction with a Saudi financial backer. There was a fall out of sorts and now the mosque has been struggling to finish construction due to lack of funds. They are now relying on community funding.
The why and what I have no clue? Whether it was due to wahabi politics , local politics I have no clue.
I will investigate the full details of the falling out and the subsequent events.
Interesting point though....
