Thread: Stuck between best PC build for 10k

Default Stuck between best PC build for 10k

Hi. As the title states I am trying to decide between two of the best options for a build (R10000) which I plan on getting in two weeks. The first bulid comes with more hdd space which I think will be useful for all the movies, games etc. i am going to get

    Core i5-2500k R2137
    Intel Media Series Z68DB R1122
    2x 4GB DDR 3 RAM R452
    2TB HDD R1138
    320GB Ext. HDD R592
    ASUS Radeon 7850 R 2848
    Coolermaster Storm Enforcer R796
    600W Huntkey - R625
    DVD Writer - R145

The second build has a better gfx card (GTX 670) which I know is waaaay better than the 7850, less RAM, an inexpensive mobo, a slower CPU to the 2500K and less HDD space:

    Core i5 3450 R1857
    Intel Media Series H67BL R880
    1x 4GB DDR 3 RAM R226
    1TB HDD R881
    ASUS Geforce GTX 670 R 4786
    Coolermaster Storm Enforcer R796
    600W Huntkey - R625
    DVD Writer - R145

So which build do you guys think I should go for. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx
P.S. This all comes from PC Int, so if you guys have info on other retail stores which are cheaper, that can also help

The top one, too many cons for the bottom one. Check Rebel Tech for cheaper prices.

Rather get this motherboard instead of the Intel: http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php...oducts_id=6039

Suggestion for a better PSU: http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php...oducts_id=1763

    Choose a better power supply.

thanks for the speedy response guys. So I guess its not always about gfx power then... Hardware Secrets gave that Huntkey psu a Silver award and they had a lot of praise for it which is why I am going for it

are you going to game on 1920x1080? then 7850 is fine , got me one the other day and bf3 ultra 2xmsaa and it plays fine

take the top build can get a ssd with it, maybe get the same mb and cpu from build 2 , to save some cash, but every rig needs a ssd!
    Pc:Amd 750k,MSI A85XA-G65,8gb ram,GTX 480 850/2000 ,Vertex 2 100gb
    Laptop : HP Envy 14 I5 460m,4GB ram,HD5650M,256GB SSD,1600x900 Radiance display!

unfortunately no... going to be playing at 1600 x 900 so I know the card is overkill for this res hahaha! yep, thanx for the advice on the ssd but I was looking at getting that the end of the year bcos I know the prices are steadily decreasing

Why a Sandy bridge and not an Ivy bridge?

Didnt think there was that much of a difference. And the i5 2500k offers almost similar performance to the i5 3570k according to Toms Hardware...

Just get the newer one then.

ivy bridge and a z77 motherboard. ivy bridge uses less power (77w) compared to sandy bridge's 95w. that makes for a more stable system. go for an HD7770 and you should be fine. unless you'll play 24/7.

Look at Antec PSU's instead of Huntkey imho.

edt: also you haven't listed an aftermarket cooler, it might be worth it then to go with sandybridge over ivy, then so it can keep a bit cooler.

I got a 2600k and 3570k both fast chips but the ivy bridge is running on the stock cooler and it gets extremely hot.

Why get a "k" processor at all if you are going discreet graphics anyways? Save some money that way, unless you also want to us the on-board graphics.
Why yes, my one eye is bigger than the other. Thanks for pointing that out.

You can use Lucid Virtu: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/mot...-z68-chipset/3

Do you think I will really need an aftermarket cooler? I only game up to 4 hrs in one session and I barely game anymore since I got school to worry about. Yeah I will take a look at them also thanx

I heard that the "K" processor is excellent at overclocking which is why I am opting for the 2500k
