Default Emergency birth certificates for Mango flight?

Friend of mine flying down from Jhb to Cpt on Saturday afternoon with her two kids, but I have their birth certificates in my hand!
    These are my options:

    1. Somehow get 'emergency' birth certificates in JHB at home affairs - is this even possible?
    2. Sameday courier from Strand?/Saturday courier - how much would this cost?
    3. Finding someone that happens to be traveling from Helderberg/CPT to JHB tomorrow or Saturday.

Any have any other options I could try? Any tips/hints/solutions?
    ic's back, back again . . .

Make some clear copies and get them stamped/certified at the police station. Then scan them in fairly good resolution and e-mail to her so that she can print them. With some luck they won't even query the fact that it is a copy of a copy.... if they even notice at all.

    Would overnighting certified copies work?

I also did not know that! By chance I was double checking their flight details etc etc on Mango ... and then I saw this:

    Important Notices - Please remember:
1 Proof of identity (a valid passport, RSA ID book or valid driver's license) will be required when checking in. We do not accept copies of temporary travel documents, whether certified copies or not, as proof of identity. Children and infants must travel with their birth certificates as identification or RSA ID book.

That is still a high risk to take... the poor thing is now going into a flat spin not knowing what to do.

Go visit the Mango counter in CPT. Explain the scenario to them. Birth Certificates are not Photo ID, so as long as they have seen it, they should be happy. If CPT can say they've seen the birth certs and are happy they are valid, they could give some sort of reference number to you, you could give to your friend, and when she arrives at the airport, she goes straight to Mango with the details. Maybe it will work. I think it's great asking guys on the forum, but best place to get your options is straight from the horses mouth.
I don't say much, but if I do say something, it pays to listen.

Trying to contact the Mango desk atm - no luck so far. Friends of ours have flown with faxed copies of these documents before in an emergency.

I've never been asked to produce any but if you dhl or fedex them up first thing tomorrow they should be able to fetch them directly from the hub there.

The airline itself might be willing to carry them up considering they're needed for a mango flight.

I think that is something that is quite loosely managed IMO. They have only ever asked for my ID when I had bought the tickets with a CC. Never asked my other half for her ID, and only ever asked for a certified copy of mine when I paid for her flights... Unless I really just don't remember presenting my ID, ever...

I would chat with Mango though. Sure they would be willing to help, somehow.

I have travelled internationally with photocopies of the kids birth certificates and they were not even certified.
I highly doubt that this is going to be an issue.

I needed my sons certificate for him to travel in December, I could get a faxed copy but they wouldn't accept it, I just went to home affairs with my ID and told them it was lost...got another printed right away. Cost like R20 and was no trouble at all. So her best option would be A. HTH.
