    Again, you have

    <Directory "D:/Apache/htdocs">
    <Directory "C:/Users/xxxxx/My Documents/Unnamed Site 2/">

    near the bottom. Remove that. Should work.

    You should only have one <Directory>

    If I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with Apache, I'll look into IIS/Sun Java

    Removed it, Apache still won't start and so when I open up http:/localhost/ ,it gives me the same blank page with "It works!" written on it, I've given up on Apache. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit so I've decided to move to IIS, in the process of configuring it now.

    If Apache isn't starting, you shouldn't even get the "It works" page. Its actually really simple, so I'm not sure what you're doing wrong

    Download WAMP and set that up. It's an Apache, MySQL and PHP bundle made for beginners.

    Lol, I have absolutley no ideo what I'm doing wrong, I don't think anyone has has this many problems with Apache. I enabled IIS and I'm really liking it, if I somehow I can't configure IIS then there's seriously somethring wrong with me, and then I'll try WAMP with Apache again.

    On IIS I'm getting a 401.3 authorization error, gonna have to check NTFS permissions now before I can go any further.

    I got it to work ..........finally . Okay now onto the next part, to get a custom domain name, would following these steps work, or would you recommend them? http://linux-blog.org/host-your-own-...-using-apache/. Also how do I make it viewable to others on the internet, currently only I can view it, I think.

    I apologise if any of these questions sound stupid, its just that I'm an ultra-noob when it comes to web hosting.

    I use No-IP and its great. Although with the free service, you wont have a personalized domain, instead it will be "yourhost.redirectme.net". There are a couple alternatives to "redirectme.net" such as "serverbeer.com" etc that they have. If you want a full personal domain, you will have to buy one and then use No-IP to manage your DNS.

    +1 for Wamp or LAMP

    Else ... Format and install linux. Just works better from a web server side.

    That's perfectly fine considering that this is just a (kind of) basic website. To make my website viewable I have to foward the pakcets through port 80 on my router to my static local I.P. address, which (since I have a Netgear router) would be 10.0.0.x , if I'm correct. Would this be done under "Static Routes" under the Netgear user interface on http:/10.0.0.2?

    Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know you're Mr.X. You actually come across as an expert in your field, why did you then register another account and want to host your own server?

    Surely an expert web designer would have a proper server in a datacenter, not a PC in his lounge gathering dust.

    byron, grow up.

    Mr.X is the OP in this thread. If you actually registered another account on this forum, as Mr.X then you're in violation of the forum rules. My post was aimed at him, and it was meant "light hearted" with some useful advice asto where his attempts might lead and what results he might expect.

    How exactly does that affect you? Or is this you, with another account on the forum?

    Now, on a more serious note, unless you're prepared to take this to court, I suggest you stop right now. You're going to cause yourself a lot of shame.
