WiFi Key
if one was snooping on my wireless connection, ie been able to get the key (eventhough its strong) and spoofed the mac address, how can i change the key without him spoofing on the traffic currently. Since if he is able to capture all text across the network, he would then be able to see what new key i have put. I dont have any wired devices, and admin the router via wlan, i have a tp-link mr3240 router. I dont wanna have to set this router up from scratch, so what is the easiest way?

Get a wired device? Surely plugging in an ethernet cable will be the simplest solution.
i dont have any wired devices, everything is wireless, also if the person is already on the wlan, he would still be able to sniff the traffic... My router, has an option to isolate wireless devices (where wireless devices cannot communicate with each other) if i turn this on im not sure if it would stop the sniffing.Originally Posted by RoganDawes

Change the key.
Reconnect, then change the key again.
Hopefully you'll be quick enough that he won't be able to change to the new key in time to see you entering the newnew key...

what about taking the antennas off the router while i do it, or will it still be broadcasting over a distance?

the signal wont get very far without antennas. What encryption were you using? please say it wasnt WEP?!?!

Unplug it, take it to elsewhere.
An off-site change of the settings/keys would be the most foolproof way imo. You might also want to change the channel and lower the transmitting strength - if your router allows it and it is feasible in your operating environment.
Set up MAC access then change key

Being all-wireless makes it trivial for you to up-sticks and take the router away for reprogramming. But don't just do a new, as dastardly as you can remember/live with WPA/WPA2 key, get rid of the REAL WPA "vulnerability" while you're at it and bring it all back home.
Drop the frequency distance on your router to a bare minimum so that if you basically walk out your front door the connection would die. Hopefully he would get cut off then do what others suggested as new key, reconnect, change key again.
Hopefully this takes care of your problem. Please say your firewall is at least enabled on your router?
