Which version did you try? The Developer Preview or the release candidate? The developer preview was sucky but the release candidate was great. After using it for a while I'm definitely upgrading to Windows 8 when it gets released.

It seems very unlikely that we won't be supported as the marketplace supports us.
    My Site: http://www.roguecode.co.za
I make awesome WP apps - search the marketplace for 'RogueCode'!
    I also write for WPCentral

Seeing as Microsoft TechEd was cancelled this year (normally August, September) and will happen early next year, I have a feeling they'll probably release it around the holiday times (November, December) so people would've had time to play with it in its retail form by then.

I am not too keen on Windows 8, I felt Windows 7 was much faster than Windows 8 on my laptop, I was using the consumer preview 64 Bit.

I am going to give Windows 8 another shot on my laptop. One thing I know for sure is I do not like the Metro User Interface, I hope Microsoft will have an option of disabling it for good.

You can try classic shell (http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/) or start 8 (http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/)

Metro is great for touch screens, however, it does not really bother me on my desktop as i rarely made use of the start menu anyway
