Have you heard any news about DTT? They said they were going to launch 3rd quater of 2012?

They are broadcasting on 38 and 50 and you can receive if you have a DVB-T2 tuner... Currently not encrypted.

Limited commercial launch at end of year. Full commercial launch by mid 2013

The only one I can pick up from my place is Grabouw which I doubt is active.

Tygerberg one is active cause I know of some people who picks up channels there.

Just dont know what they are picking up.

Doesn't cost me a thing. I work for the company that sells them locally. We will eventually distribute the DTT STB's too... but not yet.

Both Tygerberg and Constantiaberg is broadcasting DVB-T2 on 38 and 50. They are broadcasting at quite high levels, so you might be able to pick up DTT at your place, even though anlogue never worked.

Bevan, I don't know what encryption. Might even be open. I would say it's better to wait until we do know for sure.

avr, at the moment 38 is the only one with content. All the SABC channels and eTV is carried on that frequency. MNet will be using 50.

This morning I went to fetch my little DVB-T2 STB from customs.

I must say I'm really impressed with the little device

It was very easy to setup it only asked for my language and country (South Africa was not in the list but the second country I tried used 8Mhz and it picked up the channels) after a scan I was able to watch the channels.

I don't have a HD TV but the picture quality is the same as my SD DSTV decoder.

Here is the list of the TV channels:

1. SABC 1
2. SABC 2
3. SABC 3
4. ETV SDT ONLY (normal etv as far as I can tell)
5. Tshwane TV SDT ONLY
6. MYTV
7. TBN

Radio:

1. RSG
2. Metro FM
3. Good Hope
4. RSG (again?)
5. Channel Africa
6. 5FM
7. Lesedi FM
8. Lotus FM
9. Ukhozi FM
10. SAFM
11. Umhlobo Wenene FM
12. Thobela FM
13. Motsweding FM
14. Mughana Lonene FM
15. Phalaphala FM
16. Ligwalagwala FM
17. Ikwekwezi FM
18. Tru FM
19. YFM

Apart from the 3 new channels the other benefit is that the picture quality is much much better than analogue.

There is also an EPG, well kind of, it only shows the program that is currently showing and what is up next with a little description (only on the SABC channels).
