Raspberry Pi as a HTPC

Guys I just tried to boot with raspBMC, but I can't get past the logon.

It asks for "raspbmc login" to which I type "pi"
and "Password" to which I enter "raspberry".

But it says Login incorrect.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I have verified that my keyboard registers my keystrokes properly, because when I enter "raspberry" as the username, it works perferctly

About my earlier post. Turns out that RaspBMC couldn't launch because my network wasn't working properly.

It seems fine now, but I am still waiting for it to download updates for he first boot. And have been doing so for the past hour. I get a flashing screen that says "Relax, XBMC will return shortly...". So I am trying to relax patiently.

Wonder how big the download is? Feels very slow on my 1mbs connection...

"And LAN connection", so can I not use my 3G dongle?

I'm pretty sure it must be over LAN because at the time of installation there are no drivers yet to support a variety of us dongles.

If you can't set it up that way, you might have to go do it at a friends' the first time.

After countless hours of struggling with RaspBMC, I fanally decided to try OpenELEC. it's setup was much easier and quicker.

Unfortunately, some of my full HD movies stutter a lot! Very dissapointing!

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

You can try the overclock with arm_freq=850. It's also worth turning off the RSS feed.

You streaming movies over LAN or off USB drive?

Thanks, I'll look into overclocking and turning of RSS. I'm streaming over LAN from my Windows PC.

I'm streaming over LAN from my Windows PC.

Might be worth attaching a USB drive and testing the same movies from local storage.

Make no mistake both Raspbmc and OpenELEC are still in very early day stages, so give it some time to mature. I've had to shelve my ideas of using it for an HTPC because there is no USB audio support yet (I need optical out).

My download of 6666 roms has finished, now importing all the SNES games. Taking a long time :/ Cant wait to try out Mortal Kombat again :D

I am also experiencing stuttering with certain files, at this stage it seems to be limited to files which include a DTS sound track. One thing I read you can try is to set Openelec to passthrough audio if you have a DTS capable receiver. I can stream 1080p files which contain a AC3 sound track without any issue.

Does anyone know of a good cheap game controller to use with the XBMC rom manager? I would love to set this up for 2 player games.

Can someone please enlighten me about the actually price, from hearing that the device is $35 to now seeing that that price was excluding VAT so now its $42 and there is another $8 tax fee making it a total of $50 at R8.18 (from Sharenet) so now that makes it R409 from other people reporting to have paid R360? i know its only R49 difference but what about import duties etc? What will the total cost i will pay?
