Thread: Making changes to an Apple Account - yes/no?

Default Making changes to an Apple Account - yes/no?

    Hello All,

Tried a search, and cannot find anything specifically related to what I'm asking?

I'm trying to understand to what extent a Mac makes use of the details in the Apple Account - if at all?

By this I mean - if my Apple Account is under the name of "John Wayne Saddle-Bags" - will a Mac ever use this info in some form or other - in other words, I'm hoping my first email from the Mac won't have "sent by John Wayne Saddle-Bags" without me even realising it?

I've never bought a Mac from an Apple Store, so am wondering if they would need my Apple Account details at any point - do they ever ask for this, to activate some form of warranty etc?

At the risk of coming across as being overly paranoid [I'm not - promise!] - I used a pseudonym (not John Wayne!! ) when I set up my US account (with the 'alternative' address in Oregon) ... Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just "manage my Apple Account", since I see there is an option to change/edit the name of the 'account holder' - and simply use my real name for the US Account?

Is this much ado about nothing? Or would editing my pseudonym cause all sorts of flashing lights to go off at #1 Infinite Loop, and cause the Apple Specialist False Account Remover Technician (ASFART) to immediately push the SMITE button and blow my US iTunes account to hell and damnation?

As always - thanks in advance!

I use my real name for both my US and SA accounts. No FBI agents breaking down my door, yet.

I reckon I should just change it... Granted - never been on a Mac before - but have the Windows mantra of "if it's working - DO NOT fiddle" so deeply ingrained in me, that I'm hesitant to change things...

But part of my reasoning, is that when I walk in to the Apple Store as Mr. X, and then purchase the Mac - only to have them ask for my Apple Account details, where I'm then Mr. Y - it might just be something worth avoiding, if it can be done simply...

I went to appleid.com and changed whatever details I needed. I even swapped my email address between the US and SA ID's. You can also change your country as well but apps that not available in the app store for the new country will be lost.

You shouldn't have to provide your Apple ID details at the point of purchase at all... You'll use it in iTunes, the Mac App Store and for updates or support 'tho. Also works for keeping multiple devices synced (iCloud) and sharing across a Wi-Fi network.
Switching between accounts takes a couple of seconds and I've never had any issues 'tho I have replaced most of the apps I bought in the SA store with ones from the US store 'cos I'm getting old and lazy.

I only have the US account - so should be even less of an issue than in your situation. Thanks!

As mentioned above - I don't need to switch between accounts, as I only have the US one. Given that you say they won't ask for my account details instore in any event, I'll probably just leave everything as is... Will give me time to perfect my acute schizophrenia.
