    Default Humphrey Mmemezi resigns

Controversial Gauteng local government and housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi quit on Wednesday.

In a statement, he apologised for personal purchases made on a government credit card.

"After consultation with my organisation, through the ANC integrity committee and the provincial office bearers, I have decided that the most honourable thing to do under these circumstances is to step down from the executive council as the MEC," he said. - Sapa

He'll be promoted to something else somewhere.

It would be more honourable to repay all the money he's cost us. And look after that poor kid his driver took out.

    Stop die lorrie!

He claims he has repaid the money well before being caught, eh?
He claims the ambiguity of the ministerial handbook let/allowed him do it (very worrying). You still don't buy paintings at KFC no matter what book you have read.
(makes one think the handbook is deliberately ambiguous to allow for this exact type of unauthorized spending, can anyone say review??)

He will be moved out of his current position (read a resigned) , but will remain a member of the Gauteng legislature.
Sorry maybe I don't understand but how is this correct???

This is not a hard stance on corruption by any stretch of the imagination.

Why the hell is there a government credit card???!!!

I do not get this about politicians, they are always stealing money from the system, yet the salary they get every month is so much!!

I am probably not going to vote for any political party next general elections.

And he still believes he did no wrong, he wants to make a big thing about stepping down but he is a criminal, and I truly hope justice follows through.
As said before I hope this is the start of many to "step down" but I doubt it as only the public see the wrongs forcing this "justice" and the ANC just carries on regardless

Here is more of the story of why he resigned.
    http://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/m...quit-1.1339731

Mbatha – a senior ANC Veterans’ League provincial chairman – in his report to Mashatile, found no evidence to exonerate Mmemezi and save his political career.

The ANC was also aware that the Gauteng provincial legislature’s integrity commissioner, Dr Ralph Mgijima, has drafted a damning report against Mmemezi.

It found that he had conducted himself improperly while holding public office. The ANC was also aware that Premier Nomvula Mokonyane’s own investigation recommended his expulsion for bringing her office into disrepute.

So, the ANC told him to resign before Mgijima presents his damning report to the legislature on Friday. The deal was made at the ANC provincial headquarters, Walter Sisulu House, on Tuesday.

Mmemezi announced his resignation on Wednesday to avoid further embarrassment. In return, he keeps his seat in the legislature.
True to form, the ANC has again bargained away good governance in favour of looking after a cadre.
The man should be charged with corruption, finish and klaar.

I dont know how anyone can believe a thing the ANC says about its fight against corruption when they continue protecting their own like this.

You would be doing a lot more damage to these politicians by voting for another party.
