If given the choice between the 3 I will probably buy the Tiguan again because you can negotiate with VW for a cheaper price whereas KIA & Hyundai won't negotiate. I got R15K (yes!) off mine. I also do go off-road so the higher ground clearance helps.

That being said though, if the 2.5 Fortuner was out at the time, I would have held out and bought that. It's an amazingly capable and VERY tough vehicle. Those engines can go 400 000km. No chance any of the other 3 will go near that.

Many people will disagree with you there. Yes it is a very good value 7 seater and has high ground clearance but the petrols are very thirsty and diesels not known to be reliable, then in terms of ability are you referring to their ability to roll over?

I put my name on the waiting list today for the top of the range Sportage: 2.0 AWD CRDI AUTO. Once I add the front nudge bar and side step it comes to R362,000.00 which is not exactly a budget buy. The entry level Sportage is R266K.

The question is in this price range should i be looking at a Fortuner , Rav, Tiguan or something else? Or is the Sportage still god value? My main reason for it is i just love its look! Really turns my head. I would hardly ever use it off road so maybe i could save a bit buy going the petrol option on the sportage, is there much of a difference? You have to take the awd option to get the rear view camera and key less system which I would like....

    + 1
Fortuner = *****i golf, especially the gold ones.
Best thing is its not that good, prado chassis, gearbox problems, cheap inside, heavy on juice and tyres. To me it's just an "upmarket" bakkie!

We are talking specifically about the diesel, and the D4D engine has won numerous awards for best engine. Right now I don't know of a more reliable diesel engine TBH. If you drive any raised vehicle like it's stolen it will roll over. It won't just roll over if you drive normally

I have to agree on the looks though. THAT FRONT GRILLE, YAR! Although I have seen a trend where that grille is black and it seriously helps with the looks.

Out of interest which would you recommend?

In Greek mythology, the dryads are female spirits of nature (nymphs), who preside over the groves and forests.
I am in fact a gal and not a guy But that said not your typical female driver.

I contacted the Jeep sales rep and he is trying to find out why they are offering so much lower that the other dealers will see what happens there and maybe take a second look at the compass option. The do have loads of features standard, Bluetooth, heated front leather seats. In this price range (R 275,000) they probably have the most standard features than any other make.

I have to be very honest the Kia dealer’s attitudes to me today really made me think twice about them, usually you have super service before you buy and then afterwards it goes downhill.

Everyone I have ever heard of with a D4D engine has had injector problems after about 100 000KM at a hefty cost to replace.

They are all good enough cars, I will drive them all and take it from there. If they all close go for the best deal.

I think the Kia looks the best, the Tiguan will have the best perceived quality and a Suburu will have the ability.

If you are a gal, go for the Tiguan! You will love it, trust me. Wait for the test drive before you make up your mind!
I've heard horror stories about Jeep service. If you check hellopeter there are almost only complaints.

Jinx10, to be honest with you if I had that budget to work with I would probably not be looking at Kia or Hyundai at all. Yes the sportage is very nice looking at not bad value for money if you looking at the cheaper range but for that type of money there are other options to look at.

With these bigger vehicles I think parking sensors at least a must and the best would be to have a rear-view camera. Hubby would testify to that, he reversed into a Nissan almera as it was hiding behind the BT50, there was no car when he climb in and it did not show in any off the mirrors.... well bakkie no scratches the almera thou is costing a pretty penny to fix.

Excellent... Hope they make a better offer. So far, I'm very happy with my Patriot.

So, you are not considering the Fortuner, as suggested?

Same with every other car brand... Hello Peter is full off complaints.

I've had very good service so far from Jeep. Better than from Ford and Hyundai. Service I got from Hyundai with my previous car was a little shoddy.

You all know now that I sold Subaru until recently and I'm now selling Toyota, so I have obviously had some dealings with both cars.

The 2.5 has about 7 kw less, and the same torque as the 3.0, so that's enough to make no difference.

The Subaru diesel has the same torque but costs about 70k more than a 2,5, but 30 k less than a 3.0.

Bling factor is superior in the Fortuner, but road holding and the fact that it simply feels like a normal car on the road puts Subaru into a different league - also permanent 4x4 v/s 4x2 at that price.

As for falling over, that's been sorted out, but just like turbos on VW diesels, everyone only remembers the ones that blew up. It's been fixed in both cases....move on.

    Injector problems....same story...move on.

As for the Koreans, you regulars also know my view. Zero offroad ability, and as faux 4x4 as Fox is in News channels ~ bling factor 10/10.

I guess that about covers it for tonight...
