No Internet Connectivity - Tokai (Cape Town) Area

Ahoy,

Just wanted to know if anyone else has been disconnected in the Tokai area since yesterday. I heard there was a Telkom van by our box yesterday afternoon.

The power light is the only light on, on the modem. I can access the modem though via LAN and Wifi.

I logged a call with Telkom so hopefully I'm sorted by tomorrow

*Update*

It's been seven, (7), ~sef-win days now that my internet is down. Called Telkom every second day and no technician has been assigned to my fault yet. One of the consultants told me that it's a problem in the area. Well, if it's a problem in the area why is it still unassigned to be fixed

Well I'm calling Telkom now to stop my debit order and I will make a "best-effort" payment end of this month.

Have you switched the modem off, waited 60 secs then switched on again?

@bekdik ~ 10-4 Roger. I also replaced the DSL line, removed the POTS filters, connected straight to modem from wall socket etc. etc. Also confirmed with my ISP that it's definitely a line fault.

Just an update not that anyone cares...Got a call from Telkom and my line has been fixed. Apparently there was a problem with my card in the exchange?

Any duvet...calling the billing department for my refund

I've been cfedited by telkom for lack of service, so it's worth calling accounts and asking. They ain't gonna volunteer.

I'm connected but with worst attenuation stats than before and boy was it bad before.

Upload Margin = -6 (I wish that was my golf handicap...yes that's a minus)
Download Margin = 5

Download Line Attenuation = 63
Upload Line Attenuation = 44

Download Sync = 1021
Upload Sync = 498

Restarted the modem a few times and still the same. At least I haven't disconnected yet.

Just noticed now that I'm connected via ADSL2+ (previously G.DMT)...

Every time I drive past the roundabout near the DSLAM I see Telkom techies working there... maybe they have given it 10mb speeds? I hope they come up Constantia road and upgrade my exchange... it's only about 1km away from yours. Regardless lucky you

I checked on the Telkom DSL checker and it still states our maximum speed as 4Mbps. I wish I was connected to the exchange you are referring to. I'm close to Reddam and is connected to the Steenberg exchange approximately 6+ km from my place.

There is 3 DSLAMs close by which I can't be connected to due to technicalities

All fine in Bergvliet, just need to be upgraded to 10Mbps now..

My stats have improved after switching to G.DMT and back to ADSL2+.

Upload Margin = 7
Download Margin = 17

Haven't been disconnected yet and running full line speed (+-105kb/s) on Youtube, News Server and HTTP downloads. Diablo ping quality also increased Average ping between 189 - 201 on EU servers Yeah Buddy!

I would probably get a better SNR Noise Ration if I move my router...currently the cable is running past a lot of electronics. I will worry about that when the Telkom line upgrades happens.
