Signed, Blixempie.
Err Alex Rodriguez contract is worth $275 million for 10 years. Sure that's baseball but anyway so what's so special about this one? Because it's the highest American Football contract?
I don't think its the highest,I think its the highest for his position (quarterback).well it will be until Andrew Luck signs his contract.
We're all running on caveman software...
My latest threads
I care about it.
It's not the biggest contract ever. Maybe in money per year, but I've seen bigger digits.
Calvin ''Megatron'' Johnson, Jr. signed an 8-year, $132 million deal with at least $60 million guaranteed earlier this year with the Detroit Lions.
Earlier in the free agency period ''Super'' Mario Williams signed a six-year, $100 million deal with at least $50 million guaranteed with the Buffalo Bills.
Michael Vick, he of the dog-fighting fame, signed a 6-year, $100 million deal last year with the Philadelphia Eagles and prior to that he signed a 10-year, $130 million contract in 2005 with the Atlanta Falcons.
Depends on how you look at it. There have been bigger QB sums before. Granted, they're spread over more years, but still big figures.
Eli Manning of the Giants signed for $106.9 million for 7-years in 2009.
Donovan McNabb signed for $115 million for 12-years in 2002.
Ben Roethlisberger signed for $102 million for 8-years in 2008.
Carson Palmer signed for $119.75 million for 9-years in 2006.
As stated. Michael Vick has signed two contarcts in his career of $100 million or more. $130 million for 10-years in 2005 & $100 million for 6-years in 2011.
And Luck won't get a big deal. A limit on rookie salaries was put in place after the 2010 Draft. Sam Bradford was the last rookie QB to earn an absurd contract when he signed for $78 million over 6-years in 2010. I highly doubt Luck will see more than $25 million for a term of 4 - 6 years due to the rookie pay scale.

Also remember, even though the figures are huge, very few of these players earn the full sum. Actually, only the best of the best ever last a full contract.
You have to look at the guaranteed sum too. Because you sign for X-amoun, doesn't mean you'll get that. You generally get a nice payment upfront - signing bonus - with a base salary while the rest is incentive based (downs played, games played, starts, stats, etc. . .). Sign a big deal and play like rubbish and you're gone chop-chop or they force you to re-sign at a far cheaper rate.
And you have to look at how they're loaded. Back-loaded or front-loaded. In a back-loaded deal you only start seeing money if you last the contract. So it may be big, but you need to make the 3rd year to start seeing the big dollars. If it's front-loaded you get big money up-front but by the time you're into your 3rd or 4th year you start earning less.
