Default Companies that can update motherboard BIOS

Hi all. As the title reads, I am looking for a company in cape town that can flash the bios of my motherboard or someone on the forum that can help. I bought an Ivy Bridge processor but the bios of the motherboard needs to be updated for the PC to work. So if anyone can please help me out and point me in the right direction.

Yes it is easy to update the BIOS, but his problem is that his CPU isn't supported until the latest BIOS version...

    Here's what he bought:

Yeah Pada is right. I downloaded the latest bios update and created a bootle dos flash with the update as the MSI website instructed as I thought I'd be able to boot and update but not so. Put the PC together and when I power it up, it starts to boot but as the CPU fan starts and lights go on, it goes off (after a a second or two and then tries to boot again) so I think the problem is the CPU and motherboard. So do you know of a place in cape town or someone that can help. It has to be at least a sandy bridge CPU (as as I know for me to update it myself) and I don't have one lying around.

Yeah applied the paste and triple checked that everything was connected properly. Even when I tried to boot with just the CPU connected ( no ram, HDD or DVD drive ect) it did the same thing. Normally it would beep when trying to boot without ram. So I'm sure the motherboard isn't picking up the CPU hence the 1 second boot then continuous reboot. The motherboard is compatible with the CPU but only after a bios update. If I knew it would be do much trouble I'd have made another plan but yeah that's where I'm at. Any suggestions?

Any computer repair shop should be able to help. They would just have to use a compatible cpu. Flash the bios & the insert your cpu.

Yeah thats what I thought, the only place that I have found is Computer Mania, but the technical office only open on Monday again. All they need to do, is insert a Snady Bridge CPU, update the BIOS, remove the Sandy Bridge CPU and insert my Ivy Bridge CPU and it will work. Should take a maximum of 15minutes. Just can't find any other places that can do it??? Would preferablly get it done today still as I need the PC built quite urgently - I already have the update and everything!!!

If only motherboards these days had the ability to at least bootup without a CPU, so that you could update the BIOS and change BIOS settings.

They need to start thinking about something like a JTAG interface to give you access to the bios.

    EDIT: Just googled that and...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_T...idespread_uses

The PCI bus connector standard contains optional JTAG signals on pins 1-5;[13] PCI-Express contains JTAG signals on pins 5-9.[14] A special JTAG card can be used to reflash a corrupt BIOS.
Put the pins on the MB with direct access via a serial port or something.

    Hehe Ponder.

The most awesome BIOS flash that I've (with the help from my dad) done was a couple of years ago on like a 386 or earlier, where the 1 PC's BIOS was completely stuffed.
So we took out the broken BIOS chip and installed a working one (from another machine) on a ZIFF socket.

We then then initiated a BIOS update, but before we pressed OK to confirm the overwrite, we swapped the working BIOS chip for the broken one, and it actually worked again after that!

So this is the situation. They managed to plug in a Sandy Bridge CPU and update the BIOS only by installing Windows 7 first (was a brand new HDD installed) using the BIOS.exe file. Once that was completed and the BIOS was updated, they then removed the Sandy Bridge CPU and installed the new Ivy Bridge CPU. After installing the Ivy Bridge CPU, the PC would't boot again... Honestly don't know what is going on??? Any suggestions?

When you say would not boot meaning same fault or blue screen ??
Did you try taking the battery out and putting it back(clear the bios) and then boot ??

They could've flashed it from Dos.

Secondly, did they flash it with the latest version: 7680vC1 ?

Lastly, you could try to clear the CMOS by shorting JBAT1 while the system is off, as described on p 2-19 in the User Manual.
You can clear CMOS by touching two pins once with a metal object while the system is
off. Avoid clearing the CMOS while the system is on; it will damage the mainboard.

Not to sure what the boot problem was but as I understood it I think it was the same problem where when you boot the CPU fan goes on and then off again within a second or two. Have to still find ot what exactly they have all done.
