I prefer mxit over whatsapp. I'm not a fan of the speech bubble style interface because it uses up too much of the screen for the bubbles... but then again that interface will appeal to whom i would think chat services are targeting like kids and teens.

Knott-Craig said that one of the biggest advantages of Mxit, and hence a contributing factor to its growth, is that the platform can be used on any handset. “Mxit works on feature phones, iOS, Android, BB, and WP7,” said Knott-Craig.

BBM currently only works on BlackBerry devices, and Whattsapp is only available on iOS and Android. “You want to be able to speak to all your mates, regardless of their device,” said Knott-Craig.
I'm no fan of whatsapp but what do you say you try for just a hint more accuracy next time (and that includes spelling WhatsApp)

    Nokia S40 supported devices:

    Nokia C3-00 · Nokia C3-01 · Nokia X2-01 · Nokia X3-02 · Nokia X2-00
    Nokia Asha: 201 · 300 · 302 · 303
Very comprehensive, last I checked MXit supports a crapload of devices including the lower end, the devices probably quite a few people still use.

WhatsApp works on the majority of Nokias. I've had two phones not on that list that ran WhatsApp just fine. Not that I particularly care - not one person I know still uses such ancient hardware.

There's no escaping the fact that WhatsApp is used by everyone, can substitute SMSing and requires no contact list maintenance. Mxit is no longer used by anyone, has a terrible user interface, requires lots of contact list maintenance and sucks on smartphones.

    Sure. If you say so.

What I mean to say is I don't know a single human being who still uses Mxit. Even my youngest brother in grade 10 and his friends don't use it. Kids prefer BBM and WhatsApp, as does everyone I know.

Mxit currently has over 12.5 million active customers internationally (users who used the service over the last 12 weeks), and the company is confident this figure will increase.
You might not know anyone who uses MXit but it doesn't change the fact it is still used, a lot.
