    Yep.

    BB:
Download latest OS from and carrier and install on PC.
    Delete vendor.xml file.
Open BB Desktop Manager, and click Yes when prompted to upgrade.

No rooting needed, backup done automatically.

It is easy! I have never bricked a Blackberry, even my husband's 9900, and I have done several upgrades for most of the other models: the old 9000, 9700, 9780, 9790, 8520, 9300, 9360, 9800 and 9810 (yes, I am the family's personal geek ).

I was amazed to see what Vodacom charges if they do an update/backup for you.

I've never bricked one before, but I have fixed a couple that had a white screen of death; you can actually reload the OS on them.

Thread revival - took the phone in and VC will take one to two weeks to check it out. Was interesting that they just took it in without running any pre-diagnostics. It was a case of, Me: Phone is not working, Agent: OK, i will take it in...

So they said it was *water damage*....and that a replacement would cost 3k...i almost lost my mind. Will ask them to return it and i can find someone else to fix it. Speaking of which, does anyone know a good Blackberry repair centre in the CT area?
