Thread: Cell C launches iPhone: pricing and other details

  1. #31

Thumbs up RED and YELLOW BEAT

So I've done a STRAIGHT UP comparison below

    iPhone 24-month contracts
Network Device Contract Airtime SMS Data Monthly Price Minutes Out of Bundle Rate
    Cell C iPhone 4S 16GB Straight Up 200 R200 200 500MB R479 200 R0.99
    MTN iPhone 4S 16GB Anytime 200 R200 25 250MB R479 86 R2.85
    Vodacom No Deals Avail iPhone 240 N/A 100 500MB R595 240 R1.45 V to V/R1.85 V to other

*Looks like Vodacom pulled all their iPhone deals at this price excluding the handset subsidy, it's insane in comparison!

Congrats CELL C, PAPA GOT EM BEAT!

Thanks for the table - was thinking RPM would have done a followup article with comparisons on all the iPhone deals.

Use a prepaid sim card like Cell C's 99c a minute calls in the Galaxy S3 and use the Vodacom sim in your iPad with "MyDataManager" app so that you never exceed the 250 meg. I am sure Vodacom would have simlocked their phones if it was not for ICASA prohibiting such unethical practises.
Nice trick. Only now people phone your Ipad.

My iPhone never lags, so what's inside of it is clearly doing the job just fine. In terms of software I personally feel iOS is far more beautiful than Android, the eco-system is pretty much seamless, and design-wise, I think the phone itself is hard to beat in terms of looks. Not to mention build quality.

While I agree that specs mean nothing if the user interface sucks, I'm firmly on the side of Android (ICS and Jelly Bean) when it comes to comparisons. I have an S3 and I absolutely HATE using my dad's iPhone 4s or iPad when he needs help or I'm loading a Youtube video or Googling something for friends or family. iOS on a 3.5" screen is torture - everything is so cramped, settings are a mission to access, the 'app drawer'-only UI is archaic etc. Now that my friends and family have seen my phone I think they're all keen to move across. As for the iPad, it's ok, but imo it doesn't hold a candle to my friend's Transformer Prime. Now that thing is a joy to use. I should mention too that I hate converting video for iOS devices. What century is Apple living in?! With Android you just throw whatever you want to watch on your device and it plays just fine - even 1080p MKV. And not having the Swift 3 keyboard is a shock every time; I don't know how anyone puts up with the terrible unchangeable default iOS keyboard.

You could get a cheaper android phone to do the same things and save a few thousand rand. There's your difference.
You don't need to get an S3. People are comparing hardware and cost. The iphone is a rip-off because it is much cheaper to manufacture due to lower spec hardware when compared to an S3. Yet the iphone costs more. The only winner is Apple with their way larger profit margins than, say, Samsung.

*ps I am not a fanboy at all cause I have a blackberry and have a android phone and kinda want a iphone too*

Just want to say that what you are saying is pretty flawed aswell. Its like saying wow I drive Hyundai gets 1.6 and it drives well cause I never drive fast bla bla bla when offered to get a BMW 1 series 1.6 for example which is more luxurious stylish maybe a bit faster ect ect ect.

So basically what I'm trying to say is that both arguments are kinda flawed and no one will ultimately have the final say. Just giving my 2c cause its sounded like you are a apple fanboi.....
Wow news XboxOne is awesome...... Forza 5 detail.....Forza 5 detail.....

Definitely iphone isheep fanboy just like his buddy JStrike lol classic how people become so attached to a COMPANY that produces tech stuff(the the nokia fanboys of old),I have had EVERY NEW phone on the market(noteworthy ones like er note,4s,s3,one x,iphone 4,s2 xperia s,lumia 800 etc etc etc) and theres no doubt iphones have just about the best design and build quality but they lag behind the competition when it comes to processors, screen size etc which does downgrade the user experience and that lousy argument about it lagging etc is pure bull as even my xperia ray didn't lag with a single core cpu on android 2.3.And ios is far from beautiful its actually boring just like android. You want a beautiful UI look no further than windows phone!

Lack of apps is holding it back severely,I couldnt even get opera mini on it but the UI itself puts android and ios to shame easily...very smooth and fluid!

If only we could have a phone with Apple build quality/looks, windows 8 ui coupled with the freedom and power that android allows! I wish.

I have high hopes for window phone 8....lets hope they don't let us down with stupid no mass storage slot/mode,zune dependability etc!

    Interesting perspective.

Yeah, tech specs is not everything, but I tell you, screen size/resolution is one important spec to me.

I looked for an Android phone with a high resolution 3.5" screen. The processor speed is irrelevant either way as long as the phone performs tasks at a reasonable speed.

One of the things the Android manufacturers have neglected is the people who want a quality phone with a really good screen that isn't the size of a small tablet. I strongly hope Apple will not be stupid and follow the oversized phone trend that's happened with Android.

And don't forget that it's also too wide for many people's driveways, the indicator stick is on the one door, the wiper one is on the other and the steering wheel is in the middle while the Getz can all be operated from a single seat with hands on the steering wheel. But if we're talking more luxurious and stylish, then that surely is the iPhone. That is in fact one of the accusations that gets levelled at it.

The speed of your car is irrelevant if you're not using it. Who cares how many cylinders, kilowatts and newton-metres you have.

What, their argument that the iPhone meets their needs?

Get yourself the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, should be out soon.

*I'm using a HTC Wildfire S with a 3.2" display & love this little phone more than my Samsung Galaxy S2.
