Why are 2nd hand Ford Territories relatively cheap?

For a 3-4 years old car with low mileage (some are quite low)...they are actually fairly cheap. From what I have seen, they are much better in terms of space internally than a lot of other SUV's, big boot is a huge plus for me.

All in all, I hoping to upgrade my car end this year to a 2nd hand SUV and this car at the moment is right at the top of my list. My only question...why are they so relatively cheap as I dont see or know of any issues with them?

Fuel consumption is HORRENDOUS.
Open road, driving carefully, the lowest I saw was 13l/100.
Around town, closer to 20.

Tyres are extremely expensive (4k a tyre) as they are an odd size.

I had one for 6 months. Fortunately it came with a maintenance plan, as in that six months it cost the plan company about R50k - engine mounts, suspension issues etc. Every time I took it on the beach I had to book it in the next week to fix something else. Eventually I just told them to keep it, I was that frustrated. It was comfortable and spacious, but sheesh.

Would not recommend to anyone.

You must also realise that Ford took it off the market here and replaced it with the Everest.

Potentially a bloody nice car and a couple of people I've spoken to, who owned them loved them, but as Sinbad says - fuel consumption could be nasty.

Makes sense now at why most are sold with about 75k on the clock. Thanks for the info...off the list it goes!

So the Everest is a better option then? Like the look of that one too...but know pretty much nothing about it. Time to do some reading up

I suppose this is a bit off topic, but you might want to know.

A Ford dealer told me that they are starting to phase out the Ford Kuga as well in South Africa, the fuel consumption also being one of the big reasons.

Yes.

Most comfortable car I've ever owned. But just not affordable.

I also remember someone buying the Territory Auto. He used it for towing a caravan, and while cruising at 100/110 km/h, the box struggled to select between 3rd/4th gear. Kept on changing between the 2.

Also, as mentioned, the consumption was pathetic. He had a 350 V8 engine in a Chev SS, and even that had better consumption. No jokes!

Current Kuga has the 2.5L engine from the Focus ST. We only got it at the end of it's life... New Kuga is coming next year, with smaller turbo engines. I think we might still see them here in SA. They are quite nice.

That would be great, hopefully they drop the price.... a diesel would also be a nice addition. The dealer I was add did not really have any specifics as to what the future plan is

Currently for the price of a Kuga and what you get....sooooooooo not worth it!

Mate has one and he can't sell it at a decent price. Something always breaks on it and it's bloody expensive to fix.
