Thread: Poor speeds in Uitzicht / Durbanville Western Cape

  1. #1

Default Poor speeds in Uitzicht / Durbanville Western Cape

Is anyone else experiencing poor speeds in this area?

My pings and upload speeds are fine, but on both WA Uncapped and Afrihost Uncapped I'm experiencing really slow speeds.

    4mb uncapped.

Maybe Telkom stole some bandwidth from your exchange to juice up their new MSAN's

    How does your Speedtest look?

    Modem stats?

No worries. AfriHost just logged a fault with Telkom after they did an extensive test ( My line is with them )

Seems there is a fault on the line, so you might be right Flidiot

Well as long as you are coming right - that is the main thing! When Telkom eventually comes back with a report, I assume Afrihost will let you know... Maybe post their findings here? Would be interesting to see!

Fault is logged as "Lack of data transmission/ not enough transmission taking place/ traffic is intermittent at the DSLAM"

I have applied to have my line moved here for next month. They say there are no ports available. Sigh. When did you get ADSL installed?

For those of you in Durbanville, this may explain some of the issues you are experiencing. We received this response from Telkom:-

"There are no network faults reported for that DSLAM,but the DSLAM is working at 97%.It is probably going above 100% at peak times."
If AfriMan says it, it is so!

    Thanks AfriMan.

MwebGuy just helped me do testing via telkom's own network and it is still slow.

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 2179 kbps (272.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 423 kbps (52.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 25 ms

I will wait for Telkom to come to my house and come check it out. It just angers me that it works for years on end and then just one day, poof, crap speed ...

Judging by what AfriMan is saying, you are probably in the same boat as DiscoDan... And he struggled for ages... Not what you want to hear right now, but false hope isn't going to help right now.

Check out some of the posts he made RE the issues Bellville North exchange:

Yup, Telkom specialist was just here.

Logs show the exchange box is congested and running out of bandwidth.

Sad that the next exchange box 4 km from here is upgraded to the new 40mb system.

Damn, maybe you have some luck and yours is next? There's some wishful thinking for you!
